A-League leaders Central Coast have suffered a blow with defender Matthew Osman ruled out for the rest of season with a knee injury. The right-sided defender injured the knee at training on Tuesday, with scans confirming he required a full reconstruction. Osman has started six matches this season in the Mariners' backline, which has conceded just three goals in seven games. "He had a great start to the season, so it's a big blow," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said. "He'll get the rehab and he's a good professional so he'll be back." Osman will be replaced by either Greg Owens or Brad Porter in Sunday's match against Queensland at Bluetongue Stadium. Mariners striker Nik Mrdja has also been ruled out of the match due to his ongoing knee problem. ----------------------------------- Just found on The World Game

Sigh, this is a huge deal, Osman was massive for our balance on the right hand side.
He cant be "replaced" by clark or porter, not even clark AND porter could do the job he did, this is depressing...
I really dont think people are realising how massive this is to our campaign, unless we sign a specialist right back as injury cover for him, we arent going to be nearly as strong, sorry to say it, but i cant see us staying within the top two after the next 3 games, we'll be back to third

I think our curse started when Mick knocked back Steve in v1 after the first Sydney game. Mick you are going to have to find Steve and take one for the team mate! ;D

Makes Vidmar's suspension all the more irritating! He needs to be SO careful for the rest of the year.
O'Grady's injury is pretty disheartening too, and he's still a long way away, Wilko needs to get fit quickly!
Perhaps dip into the academy?

Perhaps dip into the academy? Now there's an acid test for it's progress!

Well one of the boys, last name Smith (I think), captained Blacktown's juniors, so at the very least he's quality for a junior and has the potential, I agree it's a big test of it, but isn't this part of why it's there? I don't see the point in getting someone crap from state league when the club has an academy.

I disagree, im sure there are some decent young kids in the state league. remember its essentially the level below the a league, whilst i would like kids from the academy to get promotion into the squad, i still believe we need to have a few outsiders come in and see what they can bring to the mix. Remember thats where we got Jedinak from.

There is no reason why we cant sign a replacement. From anywhere. Suddenly maybe elrich could have fit in nicely.

Oh behave - Elrich isnt a right back or a goal scoring striker - he is a very poor winger who fails to settle at any club he plays for.
Wilko can play at RB dont forget

Both Wilkinson and Vidmar can play right back - wasn't Vidmar right back for the Socceroos against Uruguay? Didn't Wilko pay RB in Season one? Porter is pretty decent, good on the ball, can fill in for now, but he is a midfielder not a long term full back. Sorry for Osman as he has been one of our most consistent. And I expect the versatile although as yet almost invisble Greg Owens can play there - he was such a success at LB for Adelaide (LOL)

To be fair to Owens i do remember him playing 20 minutes as a fullback in our opening round against Sydney, as im sure you all remember that was a pretty hectic last 20 minutes from the smurfs and i remember a few instances where Owens stole the ball and held his own in distribution, his injury set him back a little but im sure he will be the goods no matter where he plays, atleast he has it in his mind that lawrie has absolutely no problem benching anyone, no matter their resume', one of the things that make him such a successful and respected coach across the nation

I also remember Owens playing left back in last seasons grand final and got hammered and lost 6-0. If he wasn't apart of the hammering Lawrie i'm sure would have considered him as an option but i think he's hung up his full back boots.
