I've been thinking a lot about this lately and to be honest I was reluctant to start this thread but thinking about the future, it might be best if we let O'Grady go.
I know this may upset some people of the forum but really, how much has he contributed in 3 years. I know he's had a stack of injuries but I'm not sure he's that good a player and valuable enough to persevere with.
He hasn't impressed me that much when being on the field, not to mention his nocturnal activities. With Boogs and Porter coming along nicely, I'd like to develop them both. I think he's a luxury money could be spent better elsewhere.
Defence is an area where we are very strong and I'd rather develop good, young defenders with potential.
Just wanted to throw it out there and see what you all think.

Sounds like a good idea. I thought he brang a mad name to the club after the drink and drive thing. next year he could free up money and a spot in the side. I say let him go.

yeah but if we were to do that, i reckon we should keep vidmar on for another year if we can although not as a marquee. but he needs to be the senior person that is going to mentor all these young defenders

Fair comments........however Stringers should be fit in 3-4 weeks so if he gets a chance it's up to him to take it.
V1 he was injured for 80% of it, V2 he started very slow but then found some form and consistency only to be hit with injury again, and well we all know why he's been out so far this year.
Personally I think if he goes well he deserves another year, remember we will be losing Vidmar at the end of the season and perhaps Clark if he hangs up his boots so we're getting light there unless we sign new blood.
Stringers is very tall and strong, very useful back up after Boogs and Wilko. Boogs is a must sign IMO for next year but we'll have to offer him more money to stay especially now he's proved himself at this level.

He is clearly a class above and could easily still do the job next season. The only thing is, does he want to play on beyond this season? If not, I sincerely hope we keep him on in some capacity. Perhaps as the coach for the academy sides.

Should have thought more about my post. I would think it's his last season for sure. If Viddie backs up again we'll still be well off with him, Wilko and Boogs. It's a difficult one to have adequate depth all over the park when you can only sign 23.

sorry to move off topic but I reckon we should sign a specialist right back immediately on a short term deal for Osman in the hope of developing him into a replacement for Clark when he retires

I think stringers has literally huge potential he is great on set pieces offense and defense i really think we should keep him i mean look what happened with boogs we held him now look at him go. I'm not real sure but i really dont think he's on to much money especially because he hasnt been playin.

From what I've seen he's a decent squad player, handy sub for the other CBs.
His injuries and lack of gametime over a long time are a concern, but if his troubles are past him when he gets back, then we may see more consistency from him.

Also, I do not think Porter is a back.

As our ambassador Stringers will be at our preso night Friday.
He is an excellent squad player and well liked by both fellow players and fans. He brings plenty into the squad and realistically would not be on a huge wage.
If he stayed injury free he would have been a permanent fixture in the team now with a number of goals to his name.

Also, I do not think Porter is a back. Agreed, but he does try to do his best there, and does what Lawrie wants him to do.

With Viddie and Clarky both getting on, we need back up at CB and Stringers has done well when he comes in.
To balance the squad we would ideally have one less CB for one quality RB, and one less midfielder for one more striker.

Sorry to put this in the Stringers thread, but has Viddy actually said "im quiting at years end" or are people just assuming he is to old and over it?

Stringers definitely cuts it at A-League level, and I firmly believe he should stay in yellow and blue, despite the obvious handicap of being a St. George-Illawarra fan!!
