This seems to happen every game, whether we are infront or behind...... but all I see in the last 10 minutes, is no urgency and lazy passing amongst the back four and rear midfield. Can someone possibly explain to me why this is?? If I was manager of a team that was a goal down with 5 to go, I'd be saying "look, if the score stays the way it is, we lose, so why not throw an extra 3 or 4 forward and just play a silly looking 2-4-4 and try to get a goal, but make sure the midfield wingers are the two fastest guys on the team who can race back and defend if needed". I'm just sick of seeing us trail off at the end of a game when there's still a chance to either increase our goal difference, or snatch a draw/late winner.

Can't say I completely agree....yeah, there are a few lazy balls around the back, but there's also a lot of desperate long balls that have absolutely no hope of hitting anybody that really waste more time than the lazy balls.
You are right that we should probably change tactics a bit. Pull one of the backs out completely and give them an attacking role - actually, put him in an attacking central midfield role. Get our left and right backs to move forward more and tuck in or go wider as appropriate.
I wouldn't want to increase our numbers too drastically, I think then we'd have players getting in each other's way. Lack of structue combined with overly desperate and frustrated play is the problem - particularly with all the balls we give away. .

......... so why not throw an extra 3 or 4 forward and just play a silly looking 2-4-4 and try to get a goal,......... That's exactly what they did - sort of..... in a smarter way than you described ........ at approx 80 min, they took off gumprecht and brought in Simon.... that changed the formation to 4:3:3. not to mention Danny.... he was the 4th striker for a few seconds... I thought the team payed well escept for some momentary madness in the back line. Sydney took advantage of our slow Vidmar on a few occasions and there was some very poor defending when sydney scored from the corner... aparft from that the mariners never gave up.

*raised eyebrow* You seriously thought we played with urgency in the last 10??
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay then. 90% of what I saw was lazy passing around the midfield and some interesting balls forward....... and we persisted with a back four. If we're gonna lose because we're down a goal, we're gonna lose, so what's to lose by going with a back two or three?? Nothing. Diddly f*cking squat.

Sorry to sound like a typical woman, but the news today is full of praise for that dip shit Cosmina, getting all the credit for Sydney winning, I find that totally ridiculous, and they went on as if we lost by mega points, we only lost by 1 point Jeez, and fought the battle well, especially our beloved Hutch, the media really is a circus if they think Cosmina has potential, he won't last, and he certainly didn't attribute to Sydney's win, I may be a woman but I'm no dummy.

If the win should be attributed to anyone, it's Anthony Crea. He was the one on the bench telling the players what to do, no-one else. It's not as if Kossie had a mobile phone/earpiece to communicate with him.
With that joke of a squad, no coach is going to coax anything resembling continuity out of them. Seriously guys and gals, Sydney will not be an issue come finals time, and the media's fixation with Kosmina is part of their sad continuing attempts to make them big, "for the sake of the A-League". *rolls eyes*

Poetryintheblood you make some good points. Kossie is a good coach and I do rate him better than most. Remember the Sydney media gave him heaps when he was with Ald. Not kossie's fault for all the media attention.

Am with you on this one - I didn't think there was much urgency near the end. I saw players strolling over to take free kicks as if they had all the time in the world. I know it had been a tough game, but the draw at least was still there for the taking, even if we didn't really deserve it. As for that last ditch free kick....well....the fact that Tommy's effort didn't even clear the 1st defender when we'd thrown everything forward spoke volumes.... As for credit being dished out, most of mine would go to Corica. The guy seems to be at the heart of everything Bling do - in spite of that goal, I'd take him in our team in a second.
