Ahoy there!
For some reason we had the ABC's Lateline Business on telly tonight. I saw a major story about the takeover of Bluetongue Brewery by Coca-Cola Amatil!
John Singleton will still be involved with Bluetongue in a marketing capacity, apparently.
I wonder if this will have any impact on the deal that Bluetongue has with Central Coast Stadium and with the Mariners. Could Bluetongue be pulled out of the naming rights deal? Could we end up with Coca-Cola Stadium?
Stay tuned to the business pages!

More and more stadia seemed to be getting named after companies these days....I guess we should be thankful it's only (potentially) Coca Cola that's taking over Bluetongue.
Imagine the embarassing possibilities for other stadium names....

Man, that's a real shame that Coca-cola bought them :-(
I wouldn't expect anything to change - the contracts specify what the name is, and I don't know if a change in ownership would change that. Although Coca-cola haven't really shown any interest in being stadium sponsors elsewhere, have they? So considering that it may not be part of their marketing scheme, I wonder if this means they'll be looking to pull out at the first opportunity...

The sale of Bluetongue doesn't necessarily mean that the stadium will be renamed. In particular, if it's renamed it won't be to Coca-Cola Stadium. The company buying is Pacific Beverages, joint venture between Coca Cola Amatil (the Australian Coke subsidiary) and SAB Miller (local distributor of Miller, and Peroni).
The original naming rights deal (and stadium pourage rights deals in Gosford and Newcastle) is about publicising the Bluetongue brand. Bluetongue's now a national brand in part because of the stadium deal, and PB will want to keep pushing the brand out there in the 'not New or VB' market to grow it further.
I wonder if PB could be convinced to put some dosh in our direction? We still need a roof and a bar at our end.

I shudder to think what bluetongue cherry, or diet bluetongue with vanilla would taste like I'd like to know what bluetongue tastes AFTER they've cleaned the lines at the stadium. Cause right now, it tastes like off fruit.

I would be more concerned about the continuation of the deal between Bluetongue, the Mariners and John Aloisi.

Singo will always be involved with the mariners so i dont think we need to worry about that element. Hes a great businessman isnt he, starts a small label with the long term intention of establishing it against the big 2, then sells for what I would imagine would have been a handy profit before the massive capital outlay to set up a bigger brewery.

It's definitely one of the brands of the year. The first I'd really heard of it was the stadium but now you see outdoor advertising in Sydney for it and hear people ordering it in a variety of local pubs here.

It was funny, in the paper he said now that hes sold it he has no major acquisitions in the offing but hes got enough to keep him busy. For a man with that amount of $$ Im sure hes got enough on.
Maybe sourcing the world for players for next season??

The article has coke buying Bluetounge as a company. Bluetounge will still exist and I think will keep the naming rights and hopefully they will see the logic in keeping JA.
