Personally I hope Vidmar retires......he's too old and slow now. Great positioning and experience, perhaps a coaching role is more applicable if available?
Players coming off contract would have spoken to Lawrie already and be well aware of their positions and what they have to do, at the end of the day the players are contracted until a certain date and they are expected to perform to their full potential until then.

Viddie can play on. He has my confidence. Though e will surely take a pay cut of sorts.

Don't worry.
Dibo is right, and in addition to this every other club is organising it's roster. Either re-signing players (many players already quietly re-signed, just no press releases yet), telling players they need to prove themselves in the next 2mnths to earn a deal, or letting people know they won't be signed...
It's all clicking in to gear.

Vidmar is a class act, most composed back in the League, great teacher for the up and comers.

I hope we do, I will breathe a sigh of relief when we do re sign tommyP.
Did Someone mention on the forum recently he might retire? He's got some years left yet I would think, he's only 31 or so isnt he?

Will be a good test of Mariners management, I think we have ten players off contract as is similar to many other clubes.
Interesting to see who is most wanted both to resign and wanted from other clubs, within cap as well.
For me the most important to resign, only those I think off contract, Jedi, Hutch, Danny V, Boogs, Tommy, Porter, Matt Simon (not sure how long he signed for), Johnny Al, from other teams, Bridge, Burns,
Like to keep at the club in say coaching Lighting and or local rep sides is Grummpy & Tony V

A lot of good sensible comments above folks! Does anyone other than that muppet Newman thinks that once the season starts that the scouting, looking at other players' videos, getting calls from agents, etc. stops? Of course not. Would love to see Aloisi sign with us for next season. As for Vidmar, I think his original plan was to sign for two seasons and retire. He's been a good mentor, I believe, for younger players and has a heap of respect from all quarters. A spot as an assistant coach, or development role under Tobin and working through the Academy ( I think he's doing this already?).

If we are serious about Aloisi then he would have to be the marquee which will mean that Vidmar will have to retire. Currently Vidmar is outside of the salary cap, to include him would severley restrict our ability to recruit. Would love him to stay as a coach as I think his influence on our defence has been remarkable.

Or Vidmar takes a considerable pay-cut and also gets a staff-role with the club which would take more of his wage from the salary cap.

If Vidmar stays and we are lucky enough to keep Aloisi he will take a massive pay cut as their are a lot of players under negotiations that will earn upgrades thus leaving less available. jedinak will be the interesting one as Sydney have expressed their desire to have him and he deserves an increase so Im keen to see that one sorted .

I would love you to keep Vidmar in whatever capacity. He seems to have a calming influence on the younger players Good luck tomorrow against QLD Meow ;D

I would love you to keep Vidmar in whatever capacity. I'm sure you would like us to keep an old man who is getting slower everyday. Wilko and Boogs shit all over him on the field now IMO, Vidmar has reached the stage in his career to coach full time!

DJ - sorry but you misunderstood me. I meant in any capacity after retiring this season. Even he knows his days are numbered. And no, I don't want you to keep an old man in the squad past this season. I was embarrassed for him yesterday But, let me say this - he is a champion and they don't usually put in 2 poor performances back to back. Have faith.
