Well well well....
For those who asked, now the pain has dulled to a bearable ache, here's my fiddy two cents on the weekend... It's a long post, so please don't bother reading if u hate long posts! (Oh Mr Owen those cursed posts!)
Well, as one would expect from the greatest fans of the greatest team in Oz, there's been lots of quality analysis running about, and it's been an enjoyable read, though I think bouncing Vidmar considering his last two performances prior to black Viddy sunday - would be far from sensible. We are top of the league, say we are top of the league... and Vidmar has played a very strong role in this being the case and I'm pretty sure Lawrie knows it, so I suspect, as opposed to kicking an incredibly experienced player who would be harder on himself than anyone else could possibly be up the ass, that the mariners will instead be rallying around Tony, as they should, because thats the spirit that will see us win the double. Smart or hard decisions always, but doubt is a poor ally.
On Tony as he's understandably borne a lot of the foucs, clearly he has slowed, particularly in stop start acceleration, but this is horribly emphasized when our defence is caught high up the park (which it shouldn't be) because Viddy doesn't have pace to play the lone hero getting back or running down strikers, and so instead fouls or makes stupid mistakes. The fact thats it's regularly Viddy left doing it, is actually more often than not a testimony to the fact that he's actually the defender who's best held position... That said, when our defense and midfield does not lose its shape, and instead stands solid around him- Vidmar has played some outstanding games and his marshalling influence cannot be over estimated in my opinion. Other general points/agreements - there was indeed some ball watching from Mr wilkinson, Mr Owens in the back of the net please, Clarke played a great game - as did St john and Matty battled his heart out - though the day no one can skittle him will be a happy one indeed. Width is as ever absolutely vital to our attack (well said guys). However I'm not so sure about this being a game with which we can be pleased by our ability to hold the ball, as it was strong to fair in the first, but we barely even bloody got the ball to hold onto in the second.
Now, surely it can't just be me, but holy crap did the Roar get the "bounce" on black Viddy sunday or what??? Every scrap, clash, deflection, and miss cue... fell not just slightly, but seemlessly their way. Tough to get a win on such a day... and of course we must as ever it seems drop a mention for the burke in black who's mother should be held to task for unleashing such an ass head upon us all. What did she to do to the man? Lock him in a small dark closet for the first twenty years of his life? Because he sure as shit can't see in daylight!!!!
Moving on...
Ahhh, and now it's time for the crux of the revelations that black viddy brings us... yep, lets talk about the midfield, because it's collapse just confirmed two enormously clear and compelling facts...
But first a quick and necessary point in discussing sundays midfield, or the lack thereof, that is that our stellar performance man Mile did have his first real lack lustre game of the season, due in no small part to "I'm a gorilla armed git Mooore" kicking him in the throat I'm sure. Though I'm sincerely hoping it's not instead his new found and well deserved League notoriety thats started exerting too much pressure on him - if so he should have a word to St John of Mr Vidd.
But back to the crux revelations...
The first is quite simply that I'm sure we now all have a very full appreciation of how much Hutch brings to our midfield.
We knew, but now, ohhhhh how we know...
And now the second...
The "kWASSIE"
BUT I HAVE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM!!! TRULY!!!
While watching Kwassie "attempt" to move on Black Viddy, I was led to wondering WHY THE HELL HE COULDN'T... and then it happened... zeroing in with my beloved TV... I unveiled a most well hidden secret... what would seem to be Kwassie's somewhat disturbing, large lycra thigh warmers, were in actuality, carbon reinforced fibreglass molds!!!
We're lucky Kwassie can even move his legs at all!! (If and when he does) However dear Yellow kin, there is hope at the end of the tunnel (and I'm not talking contracts or the bench) I'm talking the day the casts come off!!! and like Forest Gump... Kwassie willl one day cast off his leg braces and find that his new legs can now run like the wind!!! In honour and the hope that day will come, (and bloody soon) I will be shouting Run Forest Kwasnich run, with regular frequency if Good Mr McKinna for some utterly confusing reason lets him off the bench.
(In all seriousness, please know my intent is not truly Kwassie bashing, but Mariner loving. Kwassie is a man terrified of his potential or the initial fox asports season 3 praise or something, because something has been way off, well before the back went...and he clearly needs assistance in finding confidence and form again - but not at the expense of the rest of the team.
As to replacements, with Hutch, Tommy P and Gumps coming back in, alls looking very well for the future... However worse case scenario, I'm thinking Lawrie can always whip out one of the Iraqui's that I'm positive he has living in his basement ;D
And now it's time to look forward to another huge game, DON"T YOU LOVE THIS END OF THE SEASON - especially with bonus and new years eve games!!! ... going to be a yellow and navy chrissy!!!
AND I'M LOVIN IT!!!!
LONG LIVE THE YELLOW ARMY!!!!
and best wishes to all
