Who do you think Trotty and Matt Simon came to the Mariners from? Lightning have enough trouble feeding themselves at present, anyway. PS. DON'T SHOUT!

About 2 years or so. Ask Ivan just how many season tickets and memberships are sold south of the Hawkesbury! You'll be surprised... I would hope Lightning survive to be a feeder club and other clubs too from the Central Coast but there need to be a lot of feeder clubs, even from the Central West (after Orange). That way we get the best of the Coast (as we have been doing) and to have other players, enough to take us to the HAL GF, and the Asian Club final. Anyway John, most Coast folks are hospitable and love to share their wonderful club with like-minded souls.

theres probably no chance of that happening. if there is a u/20 youth system happening for the a-league we will be recruitu\ing from the central coast.
at present we have about 40 kids playing for various premiere/super youth league clubs in sydney and the mariners also want to set up an academy for the younger kids to also come through.
Their have also been word on who is coaching this setup but have to wait and see what the CCF and mariners announcer over the summer.
the mariners need local kids and just look at bozanic tonite - scoring two goals against the chile u-20.
these are the kids we need and we do have alot of talented juniors here.

Yes that is true Spirit FC as it is now known announced at a presentation on Monday just been that, they have a strong partnership with the Mariners. Yes, CCL will obviously still provide players etc. but don't under estimate the previous partnership of Northern Spirit and Gladesville. No wonder the originator of this topic used UPPER CASE "SHOUTING" Go and check article on GHFA Web Page, it explains it all www.ghfa.com.au/. This is a byproduct of Keech's dictatorship whom does not get in with anyone and that inlcudes SoccerNSW, Mariners etc

The issue I think is whether Central Coast kids get a fair go, can develop to their potential, and that as many as are of the required standard for A-League football get a chance with the Mariners first. The Mariners will have to, like Chelsea, 1FC Nernberg, Real Madrid and many clubs world wide, look to take the players they want based on talent, temperament and price. What we want to see is that the first preference is given to Coast kids, then kids from nearby areas, then other Aussie kids, before imports. You can't always play with kids though! You would have a fight on your hands if you said we shouldn't have Gumps or Stewie. For the issue of the wider access of players to the development pathways locally, you do need to look at the local football association, and the short and often sorry histories of Lakers, Coasties, United, and now Lightning!

Agree but you must remember that Mariners need a winning team to survive otherwise they will not exists. Now, our local kids will just have to compete against all others like PRO football everywhere else. If the local is better than say someone in Southern District all well and good. It is a talent question not a locality.
The problem with our coast that there are only a handful of Development coaches who can get our kids there, and they are all just about gone and working outside of this region.
Why is that?

Afan I agree with your comments mate.
I don't live on the copast but I go to all the Mariners games and call myself a diehard supporter.
The best ppol of players will always come from sydney, 4 - 5 million compared to the coast with 4 - 5 hundred thousand. Its basic maths.
Traditionally many good athletes and players come through the sydney north area and a wise choice is to tap into that pool to ensure the future of the Mariners.
If a player is good enough it doesn't matter where he comes from, he will be sought after.
In sydney we hear a lot of bad press about the Lightning, ie the management not the players. I'm sure the mariners have heard similar, so maybe sort out the local club and get in a professional management structure and who knows, the Mariners may take a look.
The other point is that the Mariners have a tight connection with Spirit, as a significant base of players and staff have come from there, it shouldn't be a shock that this partnership was formed. It should be a wake up to the lightning to get their act together or the decline will continue, and mediocraty will be there to stay.
My humble advice: 1. Sack the current management
2. Have a transparent readvetising for the positions
3. Employ people with football (soccer) experience and management and coaching expertise.
4. A good communicator would be very useful and someone who relates with kids and respects parents
5. Not bigotted
Just my opinion!!!!!

just looking a the club championships for Soccer NSW Premier youth league. Gladesville spirit run second last so that means that they will be joining CCF Lightning in Super youth league next year. Unless strings are pulled.
