Central Coast Football is pleased to announce that the Central Coast Mariners have declared Lightning as an official feeder club.
In front of the junior Lightning and State Title players at a presentation last Sunday at Gosford City Bowls, Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna advised that Lightning is now an official feeder club to the Mariners.
“We have a larger than ever number of Central Coast players now playing and training with the Mariners. Although we can’t promise all places to local players, due to the fact there will always be players outside of area that we will look at, we can say that we attend all Lightning games.
This means that the chance of being seen by the Mariners while playing for Lightning is significantly higher than that of a player who is playing in Sydney and hoping to be seen by Sydney FC, where there are limited opportunities to be seen.
“We are pleased to announce that we support Lightning and will be using them as an Official Feeder club.”
Central Coast Football General Manager Michael Keech added that the link with the Mariners is important to all Coast players.
“In the past, players on the Central Coast have not had clear pathways from representative through to professional playing and as a player, it is sometimes difficult to be seen as there are a large number of players out there and many clubs only get looked at a couple times a season.
“With the Mariners and Lighting being linked, our players now have the opportunity to be seen regularly and even be asked to play or train with the Mariners, like Matthew Trott and Matt Simon have. Both these players are local Lightning players and have both taken the field during the season wearing Mariners jerseys since playing for Lightning.
“We are proud to be linked to the Mariners and look forward to a successful partnership for the future.”
