Good win over the red & green machine of Fraser Park last nite. FP sat back and kept their defensive shape for the most part of the first half which allowed our boys to settle in with some controlled ball movement while maintaining possession. Things started to open up just before half time with the goal to Woody. From then on FP increased the tempo on their attacking runs which concentrated on crossing in from the flanks which made for easy pickings for both Boog's and Presto, who were just too strong in the air. Boog's made the occasional 'side-line shank' when trying to clear from the back or when going for the long push forward and was clearly frustrated with himself when he did. However at other times he was pin point accurate hitting Matty multiple times, who showed his classy 'flick-on' abilities, which Mariners fans witnessed a sneak preview of these capabilities when playing for the CCMFC in the HAL last season. Boog's, with more games under his belt will easily regain his groove. Standout player for 1st grade was, as Grunta mentioned, Smitta. His work in mid field was all class. His distribution of ball in attack was very 'spatially aware' & at times in defence came forward taking over the attacking midfielders position and successfully won ball when FP were bringing the ball out of their own third. Brad's corner kicking was on form and I personally would of liked to have seen 'The McGaffer' push Boogs forward on the corners and hopefully see some extra goals being scored from Nige like what he did at CCUFC when he was pushed up for them. The 'tall-timber' of Simon's and Boog's, who are both strong in the air would be a nightmare for any keeper in the WSL. And for anyone who only bothers to get to the game to just watch the 1st grade game might want to re-consider getting their for the U20's as well. Brad Lewis and Scott Imberger put on a classy display of football, teaming up to knock in some quality goals worthy of a first grade game. Imberger was unselfish on 2 occassions when he could of rightfully had a hit himself but instead layed of or crossed in for 'Poppy Lewis' to score. Fraser did get 4 goals but the 20's defence was little too loose and slow to react. a young keeper who I'm not aware of, looked a bit shaky at times as well. Highlight of the night came from Smitta himself. Second half attacking run on the LHS towards the corner. He pulls the ball up right on the edge of the side line (IN FRONT OF THE RAZZLE DAZZLE STAND!) and has 2 defenders, side by side in front of him. He fakes a run to the corner flag and one defender drops behind the other defender to track the fake run, but Smitta fakes right and the back defender halts his track so that both defenders are now directly behind each other. Smitta then pushes the ball straight through the first defenders leg's, the ball carries on to go through the next defenders leg's also to pull of a "DOUBLE NUTMEG". He races around them both to retrieve the ball & cross into the box. I've never witnessed such a thing live or on the box and it was pure "Razzle Dazzle Champagne', again right in front of the Razzle Dazzle Stand So come on Coasties pull your fingers out of your arse and your jackets out of the closet and get your aforementioned arses down to 'chilly' Pluim Park to watch what Grunta, Corey "The Lensman" & I all agree will be a 'hot' season of Winter Super League from the Lightning. Oh and fcuk the Platinum. If Bay16 is the 'Master' then the Razzle Dazzle is the 'Apprentice' ;D 3 - Porter 2 - Woodcock 1 - Trotty (only for wearing his blue, psychedelic 1980's styled GK strip)

Had an 18th... but wish I could have gone. I will be there next week though.
Thats some quality memories to go with the razzle dazzle stand. Double fake to double nutmeg combo. Why was it lacking Razzlers last night?
Mortez, I don't think anyone from the Mariners doubted Smitta in midfield or anything, as that is his natural position. I think he was stuck in the backline because of vacancies in the squad, and I can't see him getting picked over players like Gumps, Tommy and the Jedi.
It will definately be a hot season Roddy. 7 goals for and 0 against.

Are there two Brad Lewises? The one who has played the last couple of seasons for Wyoming would be a tad past his 20th birthday.

Spoke with John Mc last nite and asked him about his plans for Brad in the squad, in regard to him utilissing the rule for "3" over age players taking the field in U20's games(which has always been in place) He said that SNSW have increased the number to "4' which gives him the luxury of bringing first grade player's who are coming back from injury, through the 20's. Maca said that Brad was in the 20's to help strengthen the team and bring about a 'culture' among the younger boy's to 'work hard for their spot in the 16' and vice versa for the 1st grade squad. I said to him "so in regards to first grade the only thing that's guaranteed is that there's no guarantee's!", he winked.

Good to see Boogard playing and getting on the scoresheet. Personally, I don't think i've ever seen him play, but if he's as good as i've been told, sign him up.
