Central Coast Football was granted permission by Football NSW for entry into the league this week opening the way for the expanded competition next year. ‘Central Coast’s entry will allow the Youth League to expand to six zones providing a stronger competition and opportunity for development for all players involved,’ Northern NSW Football Operations Manager Alan Nisbet said. ‘Currently five (5) of our zones participate and by adding the Lightning, we provide a stronger competition for players to develop their skills in these vital years of junior competition.’ The 2008 Youth League competition will now consist of teams in four (4) age divisions from six (6) zones; - Newcastle Football - Macquarie Football - Hunter Valley Football - Football Mid North Coast - Northern Inland Football - Central Coast Lightning

Did you read the story??? Actually yes I did read the story. But the story was from the perspective of NNSW. Doesn't contan much detail of the impact on footballers on the coast. So I presume that means we will have two Lightning teams in 2008. One playing SYL and one in the Northern NSW competition. Same fees apply? $1000 per player. Off to Tamworth/Port Macquarie every second weekend? Expensive season? Local club comp weakened?

You asked what it meant, and the story answered that.

Going on this years SYL of 20 rounds, you would play each team 4 times. Tamworth & Port would be 2 away & two home games resulting in 4 long drives a season. Cost would be reliant on individual club costs, eg- if they have compulsory team bus travel. Normal rego fees & strip costs would be around 300/500 with each club varying.
The trips to Tamworth & Port can be used as a chance to get away for an overnight stay with other parents at a time when we were always too busy with kids sports to do it otherwise & most that I know enjoyed doing it, though the cost is a negative.
I doubt Lightning will field teams in the NSW youth comp as well, but that is only my assumption. If that's the case, a doubling of squads would not be required & local club teams will not be weakened.

There has been talk of establishing a second string rep squad labelled Thunder.
