Courageous Wyoming storms into grand final
23Oct07
WYOMING created Central Coast soccer history when they qualified for the final of the statewide Champion of Champions competition on Sunday.
A hard-fought penalty shoot-out win over Fairfield Hotspurs booked Wyoming a berth in Sunday's grand final against Coffs Harbour United.
No other Central Coast first grade team has ever reached the final.
It was a great weekend for coast teams as two other teams also reached finals.
East Gosford's under-15 boys team beat Fairfield 3-1 and will play Menai Hawks, while Kincumber's under-12 girls team beat Smithfield 2-1 in extra time to seal a place in the decider against Yoogali. The only disappointment was Ourimbah's 5-2 defeat in the women's Premier League encounter.
In first grade at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood, Wyoming came through a penalty shoot-out for the second time in four matches.
Scores were locked at 1-1 at the end of normal time and golden point extra time. Striker Marc Tarring put the coast team ahead 1-0 when he lobbed the Fairfield goalkeeper with 25 minutes to play.
But the Sydneysiders were back on level terms when they scored from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute. Experienced Wyoming defender Aaron Hood fouled a Fairfield opponent in the penalty box and was given a red card.
A man down throughout extra time, Wyoming defended resolutely.

Well done Wyoming. Iv played with Aaron Hood before, not a dirty bone in his body. Must have been a harsh call from the ref
Good luck in the final

Dirty Old Man Fish - I've refereed that team so I know they can play football and I think they've got a great shot at winning. I'm far too innocent to understand what the heck Fish is talking about!

From the Wyoming website:
Wyoming's Premier League team has capped an almost perfect season by taking out the NSW Champion of Champions title following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Coffs United at Valentine Park in Sydney. The young and skilful Coffs team was clearly the best opponent that Wyoming had met this season. Like Wyoming they entered the final with an unbeaten record. Coffs dominated the game for much of the first half. However Wyoming's defence, as it's done all season, held out and the Tigers took the lead in the 38th minute when a pinpoint cross from Daniel Surridge was headed home by a diving Ben Wallington. The goal stopped the Coffs United momentum and the remainder of the match was evenly-contested. Coffs equalised in the 58th minute when a free kick took a deflection off a Wyoming defender and found the net. With the game into the final 10 minutes two critical pieces of play decided the title. First was a sensational save from Wyoming goalkeeper Andrew Bull followed in the 85th minute by the decider from a goalmouth scramble put away by defender Paul Jones.
Wyoming's win makes it the first time in the 40-year history of the Football NSW Champion of Champions competition that a Central Coast team has taken out the Premier League competition and leaves the Tigers with the remarkable record for the 2007 season of 22 wins and 2 draws from 24 matches. The Premier League squad has now an unprecedented six titles in the 2007 season: First Grade League Championship, First Grade Premiership, Reserve Grade League Championship, Reserve Grade Premiership, Premier League Club Champions and now Champion of Champions. ................................................................................................................. I think they had Marc Falzon, Trevor Shute out injured & Aaron Hood suspended.

And they still managed the win. What a team. Congrats Wyoming.
