Dwight Yorke is free to link up with Australian A-League side Sydney FC, following confirmation that Birmingham have cancelled his contract by mutual consent. The 33-year-old only moved to the Second City in the summer in a £250,000 deal from Blackburn, but he failed to cement a regular berth despite starting the campaign in positive fashion. The January arrival of Walter Pandiani forced Yorke further down the St Andrews pecking order and manager Steve Bruce hinted that the former Manchester United man could move on in search of regular football. Sydney FC came calling last month and won the race for Yorke's signature despite the forward also receiving a lucrative offer from Qatar. Yorke headed back to England to tie up some loose ends in Birmingham and is now free to kick-start his career in Australia. "Birmingham City Football Club can today confirm that Dwight Yorke's contract has been cancelled by mutual consent," said a statement on Blues' website. "Both parties have agreed to terminate the contract so that Dwight can pursue a career in Australia. "The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Dwight for his contribution to our season and wish him the best of luck for the future."
