"Melbourne Victory and Telstra Dome management have called on the cooperation of fans following the continuation of the stadium guidelines that Level 2 and 3 at the stadium, will not be permitted as a standing area at future games.
Telstra Dome Chief Executive Ian Collins AM said the stadium had always been designed as a seating stadium and there were no plans to change that in the future.
However, standing will continue to be permitted on Level 1 in the Melbourne Victory supporter area behind the goals, but for safety reasons on Levels 2 and 3, supporters will be directed to take their seats.
Mr Collins said patron safety was paramount and in terms of Levels 2 and 3, there could be no exceptions.
“Of course, spectators are permitted to move to and from their seats and some spectators will jump out of their seat when a goal is scored, but long term standing is not permitted,” Mr Collins said.
Melbourne Victory officials are supportive of the Telstra Dome announcement.
Mr Collins said experience showed that fans placed themselves, particularly children or older spectators at far greater risk, when they stood, particularly if they were on a steep gradient.
At the match between Victory and Perth Glory on Sunday (kick off 4:30pm), the venue’s security will monitor the situation on Levels 2 and 3 and any patrons not seated will be asked to move to Level 1 if they wish to stand.
Both Melbourne Victory and Telstra Dome say that in anticipation of an understanding of the safety situation, they would like to thank fans for their cooperation, in order to make the event an enjoyable and safe experience.
Telstra Dome has confirmed that a drum will be permitted on Level 1 in addition to a megaphone, to assist with supporter chants.
The drum and megaphone will be provided to Victory supporter groups to facilitate the coordination of fans on match night, who have been tremendously supportive of Victory. It must, however, stay in one position and not be moved around the venue."
Dear god, MVFC and Telstra Dome cannot be serious. Good luck enforcing this - the core of the BWB stand on Level 3.
See the kind of shit football fans in this country are up against?? Would it be too much to hope that one round this season (obviously a bit later on) every supporter group unites in a protest against the conservative media and the other "anti-sokkah" elements that are preventing us living up to our full potential as supporter groups??
(on a slightly scary note though - MVFC FULLY SUPPORTS THIS MOVE)
