Today at about 4:50 maybe 4:55 on Sydney radio 2UE call sign 954 AM band.
Steven Price drive time presenter when talking to 2UE sports person.
Sports person starts talking about Kossie’s appointment, Price says do you think he will last until the end of the season funny ha ha I agree at this stage then some banter between Price & Sports person.
Then Steven Price says (not quite sure of exact words but very close to “look it all just hopeless this A-League thing good crowds first year and then will fall on its face I said it at the start and you can see it happening”
The tone of what was said was the entire A-League is going down hill and failing.
Well as we all know it is not. At the end of this I have put some figures about crowds.
However these guys with these little throw away lines and implications do enormous damage because that person who was thinking I might go watch is put off.
I am looking for ideas but certainly I think quite a few emails to him, also to Media Watch and see if they will pick up on blatantly bias (Steven Price is from Melbourne and a big AFL fan) presentation with no research just Aging Red Neck living in the past thinking I have always got away with it before.
Can someone copy this thread to the Sydney fans site they deserve to know.
Some key emails address to vent your anger if you wish, I will email all four especially Media Watch.
To Steven Price steveprice@2ue.com.au
To Media Watch mediawatch@your.abc.net.au
Radio 2UE sports : sportstoday@2ue.com.au
Radio 2UE General: programs@2UE.com.au
Some key crowd data at the end of round 9 total crowds No. round 9 in Season 3 total 487, 808 round 9 in Season 2 total 447, 265 round 9 in Season 1 total 441, 833
An increase per round on last year of 4, 460 and 1, 115 per match so Mr Prices comment totally untrue and in fact even Sydney are only 131 fans per match down on their match average last year.
Sydney match average Season 2 , 14, 999, Season 3 to date crowd average 14, 867.
Before anyone asks I have kept crowd, team, round, and weather details for all A-League matches seasons 1, 2 and 3 to date.
In closing any other ideas on how to get these fossile babyboomer pricks to stop always putting football down.

Wouldn't give to much credence to what the vertically challenged gnome says, just a AFL blow in that wouldn't know the first things about football in this country, not to mention the A-league.

Maybe backhander but the vertically challenged gnom is damaging in his comments and I not sure if I am prepared just to keep letting these things pass without comment, maybe I am in a bad mood today but he realy gave me the sh*ts by indicating the A-League was a one year wonder and lets get back to the real stuff.

average so far is 13541.
total attendance is 487460 over 36 games = 13541.
nevertheless, you make a good point - crowds are fine, big names (vidmar, aloisi, juninho, tiatto, moore, popovic, millicevic, thompson - none of whom would have been playing here a couple of years ago), lots of sponsor dollars, pay tv ratings better than the super 14... where's the bad, really?
EDIT - that's my 3000th post. woooo!

EDIT - that's my 3000th post. woooo! Dibo thats right I should have put the 13, 541 in my post to. Plus the other things you mentioned says football is going forward not back-wards as Pricey puts forward. But I am sick and tried of Picks like Price and that boof head Peter Fitzsimons from the smh always having cheap pot shots. Just want to fight back , Mate I been putting up with crap for over forty years and the damage all these little cheap shots have is real, and hurts football. Simon Hills article pre WCQ and while still at SBS "can you smell the fear" if you haven't read it, see if you can get a copy (he wrote two the second article tames down the first but get the first copy if SBS will allow its taken off there opinions for a long time now). Simon demonstrates these guys are not always innocent sometimes these things are said on purpose. So in my own little way I send off four emails, it's how I can fight back. It may not help but it cannot do any harm. Cheers Dibo and well done on the three thousand and on my thread feel honoured

Steve Price is always after debate - he does talkback and the quickest way he can get people ringing in is to put up a hot view.
A few guys I work with have driven him to work. He was under a driver suspension (for DUI I believe) and decided to cop it sweet and go with public transport instead of catching cabs or a hire car (which he could easily afford).
He wrote a very nice article about the bus drivers he met (my work colleagues) and I'm told he was genuinely interested in how we managed our work and the hours we worked etc. He started out with a view quite different to what he ended up having after talking to a few of us bus drivers, and was quite prepared to admit that in his article.
Nonetheless, he hails from AFL heartland and no doubt, he has been bred to hate football. But I do think if someone could arm themselves with some facts and figures and see if you can call him up, approach him calmly and put your info to him succinctly, he might see the other side of the story.
On the odd occasion I have heard him on radio, I didn't find him as belligerent or arrogant as some other talkback jocks.

How in the hell he got Lisa Wilkinson interested in him...
See David Lord more regularly though. Lord does 'business' at the Oaks (hotel), near my depot.
Have also seen Any Harper heading into the Oaks. Mistook for a workmate and nearly said 'Hi' til I realised who it was...

Steve Price is an absolute farking twat of the highest order. As just one example, the Four Diegos kept a little dossier of his comments when Australia were beaten by Uruguay in 2001. www.fourdiegos.com/media_radio.shtmlSteve Price 'Drive Time' 3AW Melbourne says…"It was a flat let down this morning (Socceroos V Uruguay in Montevideo) and again Australian soccer will retreat to the sub-standard suburban free for all that saw Northern Spirit supporters on the weekend threaten a referee. All those soccer supporters who have for four years been predicting the rise and rise of the 'so called' world game will all fall silent again for another four years. Soccer Australia will struggle to avoid going broke and the game laughed at by soccer supporters, Aussie Rules football, will continue to prosper and grow. So no I'm not glad we lost but I'm sure glad we can now stop talking about what a great game soccer is, it isn't, and how many kids are playing it, they're not, well only those who don't want to get hurt. At least today's result has given us someone to support in the World Cup - Uruguay" Price on Viduka…"That was a pathetic effort this morning. Tell me about multi-millionaire Viduka. Where was he? Where was he when you needed him? Where was he when the pressure was on? The only time he got the ball was when he got in the way. A couple of times they crossed it and it hit him in the back of the head. He was pathetic and they (the Socceroos) were pretty pathetic to be honest." Price on Farina…"I sat there thinking to myself after the half time break did Farina point to the coat of arms on the strip and tell his players 'come on your doing this for Australia?' He has never struck me as being the sort of person who can turn the team on with an inspirational speech. A country of 19 million people got beaten by a country of 3 million people." Price on the virtues of soccer…"I don't give a stuff about it (soccer), there's not much to know. Domestically the game is rubbish and it will always be rubbish because all the best players go overseas. It's a boring game. There's not enough scoring. I wasn't going to go to the game at the MCG but I got convinced because someone gave me free dinner and a drink." Price on why more people in the world than any other sport follow soccer…"If you live in England there's not much to do…" Price on 3AW listener's criticism of his comments and ignorance about the game…"Ok I will not speak about soccer again. We won't promote it. We sent four people to South America to cover it. After today's show I will not talk about soccer again." Price, Fitzsimons, Chesterton, Hadley...all cut from the same ugly mold and all about as nauseatingly c*ntish and borish as each other.

Good post Rubbernose. I'm glad you put this up.
We must show up these so called journalists for what they are, that is bigoted, racist, ignorant pricks who fear the beautiful game and will stop at nothing to protect their small insular Australian-centric sports that have no interest outside of a couple of states in this country.
It doesn't bother me what they say, because no matter what, our game will become the number one sport in this country and will be entrenched in the Australian psyche. It will enventually be the most important sport adored by the masses. It's only a matter of time.
It does worry me that readers/viewers/listeners are heavily influenced by these dickheads and take as gospel what they say.
My personal favourite is Fitzsimons. I despise that man and would watch him burn rather than piss on him.. I don't know of a man more bigoted and ignorant than him in the media. For a man of his political persuasion, he does not live up to the suppossed ideologies of a fair go and tolerance of the Labour party he shamelessly supports.
