Ch 9 ran on their news about crowd behaviour at football agian, accordingly to the Victory forum it is totally made up. So it appears that news sports reporting has turned totally to the dark side and into a current affairs type shows.

This deliberate attack on football does hurt in the long term.

It highlights two things first the electronic commercial media (apart from Fox) are looking for the bad news stories as a club we must not give them anything to use agianst us and secondly we need to think of a way to stop these attacks.

I found it quite funny when we were sitting outside the colonial and there were nearly more cops than drinkers out there (and half the drinkers were the bogans from the pool tournament inside). Some of the police actually looked quite embarassed by being there when they all lined up along the wall.

Bleh. This seems to be everywhere in Melbourne, isn't it? Easy to smell the fear...

On the plus side, there was a far bit on football (no negativity) in the Sun Herald, including a big article on the MIGHTY MARINERS!
General gist was that the club has succeeded on the coast where NRL has failed, supports the community, has growing support, etc, etc.

Saw that news story, it was actually a story about Merv Hughes doing ads to get people to behave at the cricket and then they just switched to football. It had no lead in and their Youtube amateur videos showed people queuing to get into the ground FFS.

LOL at the media in this country....... a perfect example is this whole Wayne Bennett took money "saga" going on in the NRL at the moment - a nothing story whatsoever, beat up into something by agenda driven hacks.

We as fans (and quite frankly, as people) are better than anything anyone from a conservative/mainstream media outlet in this country could ever be. They know they're losing, they know that NRL will forever be a Sydney and Brisbane sport and nothing more - football _scares_ them...... the "ethnics" (LOL at that term) are coming home to play the soccerball, and they don't like it one little bit.

Newsflash losers, we're here to stay. Deal with it.

The story about Wayne Bennett is utter crap, and the NRL have said as much by saying it's a non-issue for them.

He has a mate who is wealthy and has been paying/giving Wayne a substantial sum of money to be put into a trust account for Bennett's two disabled kids. Wayne himself gets NO BENEFIT from the money, from what the article said in the Qld papers I read waiting for the plane home.

The guy who gave the money to Bennett is allegedly under investigation for giving money to a Qld State MP, I think. Or, someone who has to be careful about getting from outside sources, in Qld. In the course of that story and the media scrutiny, Bennett's money got mentioned.

It was a gutless, underhanded way of trying to say that Bennett was supposed to be getting payments under the counter. It didn't work.

While I may have some distaste for NRL, Rugby League and a lot of their mugs who support the game, I don't hold the same feelings towards Wayne Bennett, the man.

Sure as coach of the Broncos, and Queensland, I wished he disappear, but the man himself transcends the code of football he works in with the way he looks after his family and the work he does (unpublicised) in motivational speaking and getting people heading in the right direction.

And yes, as Serious has said above, the other codes are realising that football is coming on, and this HAL venture has now gone 3 seasons and looking at improving each year. It worries them.
