Takeover talk pleases Hammers From correspondents in London August 19, 2005
WEST Ham manager Alan Pardew has welcomed a proposed £200 million ($477 million) takeover from Iranian-born businessman Kia Joorabchian as proof the club is on the up.
Pardew views the interest by the head of the London-based consortium Media Sports Investment as a clear indication that West Ham's future is bright.
Joorabchian has said he plans to spend £45 million on buying the club, £30 million on its debts, another £30 million on keeping the cash-flow going and around £100 million on new players.
And Pardew said: "For us as a squad it's a positive thing that people want to invest in the club. Someone is looking at us and thinking 'something is happening there'.
"I don't want to grow too many headlines about the takeover but of course I could do a lot with 100 million."
Pardew is proud of the way he has worked closely with the current board to bring West Ham back into the Premiership.
"The board have worked extremely hard to try and correct issues that have gone here in the past," said Pardew.
"There is a good feeling around the place and that is the feeling we want to keep. Whatever happens, if anything it is going to be a positive for us. And a positive means a good thing."
West Ham chairman Terence Brown, derided for so many years by the supporters, must decide whether any new investment will strengthen the club.
He will listen to "anyone who can help West Ham move forward" and can make a credible bid. "We are now in a position of strength with exciting, young players coming through the ranks and I don't want to see all the hard work of the last couple of years go to waste," he said.
Joorabchian owns a 51 per cent stake in Brazilian club Corinthians, which is currently on top of the Brazilian league.
"There is no point in buying West Ham unless you are going to turn them into one of the top teams in the country," said Joorabchian.
"There is huge potential there and at one point we are going to make a bid, although at the moment we have not done anything."

Tiger - That's the first thing I said when I heard the news. Scotty Drapper doesn't ring a bell, I did know a Scotty from the old spirit days but I think he went back to sheep land.
Actually, I've gone for a Newcastle win myself, although as I only got 4 from 10 last week I wouldn't mind if got that one wrong....
