OH MY GOD!!! I was just reading the West Ham United web site, And in England they r trying 2 ban ALL FANS FROM STANDING AT ANY TIME. Its been happening for 2 seasons now. If fans consistently stand at games, the club gets punished buy having there capacity reduced at there home games, and seat allocations at away games is also reduced. And we all thought swearing was the issue. Can any1 else believe this, cos I am bloody shocked.

It's been a issue for a while now, in particular the Bobby Moore Lower. The local council have threaten to close sections of the ground down and away tickets were limited at a few grounds last season. So although the security at CCS are not a polished as SFS they aren't as bad as UP, also you can't watch the footy with a beer anywhere in the UK

It truly is a sad world bearinator OH&S issues, sueing councils and large companies etc etc have made it tough for those who are responsible for safety issues in large venues.

Yeah it's all a load of legal shit now! Everything started to change after Hillsborough! Some things needed to changed, the new stadiums in the Premiership are some of the best in the world, but there should still be some standing room available, a big part of the problem at Hillsboro was the fences caging people in both into 3 pens across as well and one at the front. We these gone, surely there is a way to install some safe terracing.

try reading the roar forum and look at the problems their supporters are having standing up They seem to have sorted this out with the club and have been allocated reserved standing space for vocal supporters. We better look at sorting something out with them for the few that are travelling up next Friday to make sure we'll be alright wherever we try stand. Are you going up Mick? Let me know if you're not so I can post up there.

At the time of Hilsborough cages were available that hinged open in 3 or 4 sections along the entire length of the touchline, ensuring a quick, viable and safe way to relieve overcrowding. Many European stadia still use this system today. The Taylor Report rejected this option and ruled that no terracing be allowed whatsoever. In these days of Health and Safety being paramount i think there is little chance of change. When david burrows scored after 30secs in the merseyside derby i lost a pair of my brand new shoes due to 16,000 fans surging down behind me. Scary but exciting. Would love to see it return but not hopeful Kicking up a stink about fans standing up is just ridiculous though. First ive heard of it.

Hey RV, why would the kop even want to stand and cheer when their team gets beat 4-1 at home? Ahhhh they must be used to it ;D

Hey WT that's uncalled for. I thought it was beautiful to hear 'You'll Never Walk Alone' sung at the end. What other English club would have that support in those circumstances.

Umm Leeds United when they got relegated perhaps? No shame in getting Hammered by Chelski - who I don't really like either - but I don't like Red Vedder (did you tip 2:1 on Friday night)

back on topic... standing should be allowed in areas like bay 16 where; - there are fold-up seats - there are roughly only as many people in there as would be seated otherwise - people aren't standing on seats - other patrons' views aren't obscured
i think there should simply be a commonsense and tolerant relationship between standing and non-standing fans, the clubs and the stadiums' managements.
people who want to stand should be able to, at the back of designated bays and there should be certain non-intrusive controls in place to ensure that there is no overcrowding. the rows of seats prevent stampedes (which are crazy and dangerous- watch some footage of games in sth american stadia like boja juniors' ground 'la bombonera'- that's f***ing mental), so that is covered, then it's just a matter of ensuring there are common courtesies followed.

Didn't see you sitting at the SFS - that doesn't meet the criteria.

seats arent in place to stop crowd surges or "stampeding" watch any melbourne game and you will notice behind both goals that there is no standing but steps with rails about a metre high used to lean on and essential placed to stop large crowd surges. so many games i have been to so far and i have just been craving to stand on the seat. it does make alot of room but damages/wrecks them.

I prefer to sit down to be honest but i know some people who prefer to stand but it does annoy me at games when the person in front decides to stand up. People have talked about having special standing places like they do in Germany but i can't see it happening over here in England
