What do you guys think of Englands chances at the world cup then? Personally i think we've got no chance with that turnip in charge. We may sneak out of the group stage at best.
I'd like to ask how do you think Australia might do but to be honest i don't think you are gonna make it. With the likes of Togo in the world cup this year, Australasia and Oceania should have been given an automatic qualification. It cant come soon enough IMO.
Anyhoo- has anyone tried being Grimsby Town yet on Football Manager. Go on, give it a go- try and get GY from the fourth division into the Premiership!
Also, how good are Richmond? One of Grimsby's ex-players who left in the summer has joined them. I always liked him and i hope he does well.

Depends on their group, but anything less than the quarter finals would be considered a failure if you ask me! To ne honest I would say that's the best they will do on current form.
Australia have a very tough game next week, if they manage to get through I see no reason why they won't get out the group stages again depending on their group, but their group would probably be tougher than Englands (could even play each other). First leg against those South American scum is huge, come away with a good result and their confidence could carry them over the line.
I don't believe Oceania should have been given an automatic spot for the WC, however playing a South American side is a little unfair considering the difference in the 2 countries preparation leading up to the game.

diego forlan's out! ;D
oh, and the grimsby player might have gone to the richmond kickers in the 'other' a-league, the United Soccer League in the USA, formerly known as the A-League.
and for OZ, well, i think auto qualification for oceania is maybe a bit soft, going through russian roulette in S.America too rough, asia is perfect. they should just roll the whole OFC into the AFC... more matches, more regular, more competitive, more money, what's not to like? if we're shit we won't qualify, if we're brillo we'll mulch 'em. works for me!

having been over here during the last world cup and having watched numerous qualifiers and friendlies, i have started to get used to believing that this time they'll really do it (England). Then sire neough the dream is too good to be true and a dash of brilliance from the opposition (or dumb mistake) happens e.g. Ronaldinho's free kick or Zindane or euro 2004, and then you're left shaking your head saying how'd that happen? but, who knows, england hadn't won the ashes in donkeys - their current form is crap but then Germany were woeful prior to 2002 so i think this time they have a real chance (there's that belief again!).
As for Australia, i reckon we'll qualifier and win a game or two. Anyone see Viduka for Middlesborough last night? brilliant, freakish striker.

England's players aren't good enough. The South Americans infest their league (and Italy and Spain) to learn under the best coaches after spending years playing street football developing a magnetic touch while English kids are chomping down pies and chips! I dont think it's Svens fault.
Australia is probably around 33% of qualifying. Luck will decide it on the day!
I'll get back to you about footy manager! ;D

English kids chomping down pie and chips! hmmm granted England has got its fair share of fat kids, mainly those whose parents arent into sport- but all the other young lads are into footie.
Kids are just coached differently to how they are coached in the latino countries- its the same game, except England has a different way of playing it to almost every other country (fast-tempo, up-and-at-'em kind of football). It might not be the best technically but IMO it's the most exciting to watch. But because of this, England have no chance of winning the WC.
I managed to get Grimsby into the Prem on '05 but i couldn't get my ground built quick enough and so i got relegated pretty sharpish. I look forward to seeing if you can do it WT.
Also- it's definitely Richmond (au) that he has joined. I think the website said they are in the Australian Premier League(?)

English kids chomping down pie and chips! hmmm granted England has got its fair share of fat kids, mainly those whose parents arent into sport. Aussie kids are 2nd in obesity behind the states apparently. Difference is they all seem to play more sport than we ever did in england. Climate probably helps this. I am always full of optimism going into world cups. The boys will do well, though im not sure how far that will be. We have got a cracking squad, i dont care what anyone says. Although i would only replace Sven at this late stage with the legend Mike Bassett!!! I will miss not being in England when it kicks off. Just love the way the country comes to a standstill. I think Australia will finish 2nd in their group and go out in round 2. Another good acheivement and no other code in this country will be able to cope with World Cup fallout

If we qualify - Round 2, A-League takes off, We will get 10k
If we don't - noone will care about the A-League, people call it soccer again, telegraph pulls football fever and Zelic talks about how if he was playing in all 11 positions Australia would win the cup.

Drop Ferdinand for a start. Hes good .... but I realy reckon there is better that England can offer. I think England have the same chances as any team going into the world cup. the difference between the winner and losers is the passion and belief. do england have it ? who knows ... it would be great if they do, as I reckon they could go all the way.
On a more important note (given that England have already qualified). Tonight is the Australia v Uruguay match. BRING IT ON !!!!! should be a classic whatever the result. 82,000 (or is it 83,000?) tickets sold. just read that Jonny Travoltar is going to be at the stadium. Quantas are flying a jet over the ground before the game. They're setting up a giant TV screen outside the ground ... and 15,000 people are anticipated to watch it there. loads of other giant screens dotted around the country. a sea of green and gold. live internet streams of the match around the world. people flying from all over to get to the game. ITS GREAT ! Im loving the passion that football seems to be getting here in Australia now. Everybody who follows the game here in Australia should be applauded for making it happen. None more so than Johnny Warren (RIP). Good on Johnny ! I recently stayed down at his brothers pub in Jamberoo. All his family realy were such nice people. They were amazed when me and my bro' started taking such an interest in all the memorabelia on the walls. Even handed my brother a copy of Johnnies book. So I reckon Johnny Warren is smiling now .... looking at the progress the games making here.
I also just spent a few days up at a friends in Copacabana. Driving through Gosford I saw the Mariners stadium up close. It looks tidy. The three stands got me wondering tho' ... do people croud up outside the ground to watch the match (as the pitch was clearly visible from the road).
On another note. Grimsby (played 17 - 31 points) are still surfing high on the second division wave. Currently Second with Orient siting top (played 17 - 32 points) ... and Wycombe 3rd (played 17 - 31 points). We ahead of Wycombe on goal difference (our +13 to their +12). Its away to Wycombe next ... so should be a toughy !
ok thats my essay over with (Phew!) We're all off to get the beers in for the match tonight. Ive said it before ... and I'll say it again .... BRING IT ON !
Australia V England for World Cup Final
Grimsby Promoted
Central Coast Mariners A-Leauge Champions
Its a wonderful dream for 2006
p.s. grimsbymariner ... spread the news of Central Coast back in Grimsby
