AUSTRALIA captain Mark Viduka could follow fellow Socceroo Mark Schwarzer through the Middlesbrough exit door and join their national team-mate Tim Cahill at Everton.

Viduka has been linked in the English press with a move to Merseyside, where Everton is desperate to bolster its strikeforce.

The Daily Mirror reported Viduka has held talks with Everton manager David Moyes about the move during the January transfer window.

Everton is short on strikers due to injury, the sale of Marcus Bent to Charlton, and the failure to land a list of high-profile strikers headed by Fenerbahce's Nicolas Anelka.

Schwarzer has been granted a transfer request by Middlesbrough, where he continues to warm the bench while negotiating with other clubs.

The Australia goalkeeper said Viduka was shocked when told of his transfer request.

Middlesbrough has been busy in this transfer window trying to offload the steep wages of Schwarzer, Jimmy Floyd Hasseilbank, Ugo Ehiogu and Massimo Maccarone in order to offset poor gate-takings and to chase new talent.

I think Viduka justs like playing with another aussie, When he was with leeds he played with Kewell and then Kewell left he goes to Middlesbrough with Schwarzer and now Schwarzer has left he wants to go to everton with Cahill

viduka's only looking at going there as an economic stimulus- his enormous appetite for pies will serve to prop up the pastrymaking industry on merseyside so more bubblepermed shell--suited hubcap thieves can be in work making pastry and off the giro.*
