Did anyone see the tackle (assault) that Joey Didlulica attempted in the Daily Telegraph today? I have not seen it on tape yet, but I am sure that it will probably feature on the news tonight. What the hell was he trying to do? How much of a run up did he have to get? This tackle looked very similar to the one in the 1982 World Cup finals with Toni Schumacher on Battison (or something like that)? What do other people think?

assault indeed...good news for socceroos.
Didulica faces jail term SBS
Austria Vienna's Australian-born goalkeeper Joey Didulica has been charged by authorities for a foul tackle he committed last year, and faces the possibility of a three-year jail sentence.
The 28-year-old former Australian Institute of Sport student has been indicted for "inflicting serious bodily injuries by extreme negligence" during a challenge on Axel Lawaree, which broke the Rapid Vienna player's nose in May 2005.
Didulica served an eight-match ban for the incident, but is now staring at the maximum jail term this latest charge carries; three years.
John Didulica, Joey's brother and the chief executive of Australia's Professional Footballers Addociation, commented that his younger sibling was being dealt with unceremoniously and the charge set a dangerous precedent.
"If this establishes a precedent, it will completely change the way tackles in the game are dealt with," he told The Daily Telegraph.
"This is a hugely disappointing thing to happen to any professional footballer."
"Joey's focus is on his football. He's got the World Cup this year and can't afford to be distracted."
Joey Didulica is a senior international for Croatia and will be hoping to beat this charge, which could potentially ruin his dream of representing his adopted nation at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Ironically for the Melbourne-born gloveman, Croatia has been drawn in the same group as Australia.

I know things can happen in the heat of the moment on the pitch, but ive never thought that they are valid reasons to take someone out like that. Ive lost count of how many times ive seen the commentors of thugby league defend the actions of people on the playing field.
There are alot of people who think that the "laws of the land" stop and start at the playing field sideline. Its only a matter of time before the courts will remind people otherwise.

Maybe Didulica and Reddy had the same goalie coach? Yep, not impressed that this guy and at least 2 others could be lacing up AGAINST Australia in the World Cup, even tho we've contributed to their playing careers via scholarships etc. If you leave the country you should have to pay the money back upon taking up another countriy's citizenship. Will add extra incentive for the Socceroos to get into 'em.

quite rightfully the AIS now have athletes sign contracts that they will not represent any other country in their chosen sport the only practical exception i'd put on would be when someone like alex popov comes over ready made to train here with gennadi touretsky - what he could teach our sprint swimmers was worth wahtever the cost was. note that since he dropped off the scene, the men's gold rush has stopped?
