A few results from the last few days.
Tuesday, 30 May 2006 International Match Argentina 2 - 0 Angola Chile 1 - 1 Ivory Coast Czech Republic 1 - 0 Costa Rica England 3 - 1 Hungary Germany 2 - 2 Japan Libya 1 - 2 Uruguay Poland 1 - 2 Colombia Tunisia 3 - 0 Belarus
Monday, 29 May 2006 International Match Jamaica 1 - 4 Ghana USA 1 - 0 Latvia
Sunday, 28 May 2006 International Match Croatia 2 - 2 Iran FYR Macedonia 2 - 1 Ecuador Morocco 0 - 1 Mali Turkey 1 - 1 Estonia Ukraine 4 - 0 Costa Rica
Australias opponents Croatia scrapped a last minute draw (penalty too) against Iran which isn't a fantastic performance, and the other opponents Japan got a decent 2-2 against Germany, 2 late German goals.
Sven looks set to start Carragher in the holding midfield role too with Gerrard pushing more forward in an attacking role.

Im a bit worried about that 2-2 Japan Germany result. Japan also drew 0-0 with Scotland about 2 weeks ago, not the best result on that occaision. A clean sheet is still a clean thou I guess.

Japan have the experience of being in the last few world cups. Make no mistake we are the number four team in our pool and it will take an exceptional effort for us to get past the group round stage.

Brazil are favourites to get out the group (surprise surprise), then Croatia, Australia and lastly Japan
It's 1 of those groups where any 1 of the last 3 can come second. 4 points should be enough if you have a good goal difference.

I think that Germany - Japan result could be more reflective on how Germany are looking than japan. Just remember they got pumped by Italy not long ago. Either way, I do agree it will take a great effort for Australia to get out the group, I still believe it can be done though.

Our 'draw' as in order of the matches we play will benefit us as well. We go into the easiest game first with Brazil looking to get off on the right foot and knocking off croatia.
After that initial let down, we'll need no motivation to lift once more against the World Champions, which will be the game we'll most look forward to despite the personal feelings involved with croatia. better we face them now than face the possibillity of needing a result against them in the final game.
Then we have Croatia, on paper the main rivals for the second spot. We'll likely know what we need out of the game heading into it which will be good considering how flexible we now are.
Looking purely at our team, this is the order of games that will keep our boys most motivated for each. Total Football watchers will notice I stole most of this from Graham Arnold but I totally agree with him.

Just played the whole world cup on x-box. Beat Japan 3-1, Brazil 3-0, and Croatia 1-0, Brazil also drew with Croatia 1-1 and they missed out on the 16 on goal difference. I could actually see something like this happening. With Brazil playing only 1 proper warm up game, against New Zealand I can actually see them drawing with us or Croatia and loosing to 1 of us as well. They will probably beat the Japs tho. I know I will be putting $10 on them not getting past the group, and ill be a millionaire if it happens.

You're just about a millionaire if you tip anything but them winning the whole thing. The odds for them are ridiculous.

bear, i'm with you to a point - brazil's warm up program has been bizarre, quite frankly. pounding teams by double figures or close to is one thing, but when ronaldinho's got a hardened professional like lucas neill or craig moore up his clacker he's going to have a much less fun time. *dibo, where's the 'but'?* ditto for the backs - cafu and roberto carlos will be made to look like sad old men if they play complacently with aloisi and viduka running at them, pinging shots and passes around them (clips i'm looking at of late with viduka in training look scary-good - like he's not going to score some goals, no matter who it is). *dibo, where's the 'but' * and we know the other two are pretty good too, so brazil had better show up to play. japan close down a midfield faster than you can say "okonomiyaki ga suki desu yo! domo arigatoo!" *here's the but* but... i still reckon their 2nd team could probably win the cup, and for sure they'll get their shit together and take 9 points...

Im really unsure about this group. If we play to our best we will get through and maybe even get a result against Brazil (imagine a win!) but anything less could be our downfall. So excited for it tho, all the shops are getting behind it....everythings world cup....i love it! Better than christmas and birthdays added together for 5 years IMO

We are now very hard to score against and Japan find it hard to score goals. Therefore, I predict that:-
We beat Japan 2-0, Brazil draw with Croatia 0-0 We lose to Brazil 1-0 and Croatia beat Japan 3-0 Brazil beat Japan and we have to beat Croatia to go through.
And that is gonna be tough. Better for us if Brazil win against Croatia so that a draw against them might do it.

I am gonna be the outsider who suggests the croats will beat brazil in the opening game, leading to brazil missing the next stage. Just a crazy theory. Mayeb they will still make it through, but will be putting money on the croats first up.

Croatia has another poor result in their build up to the World Cup and Crouch scores a hatrick for England.....what the? Crouch did miss a penatly too thou which was a real poor effort. What is with his gay robot dance celebration too? Has anyone seen it?

Why would he be taking the penalty? He'd be last on my list behind Robinson if a shootout came up.
