When new info becomes available i will post it.
Posted 22/01/07 11:55am North Shore, Northern and Newcastle & Central Coast Lines - Major delays due to line closure CityRail advises that train services have been suspended in both directions between Cowan and Hornsby due to a bushfire causing the line to be closed for safety reasons at Mt Kuring-Gai. Rail commuters face major delays.
Due to road closures caused by this incident it is not possible to provide a replacement bus service.
CityRail advises customers to delay travelling until alternative transport becomes available and confirmation is received that roads in the area are open. We suggest customers call the Transport Infoline on 131500 for the latest recorded updates before going to their station or wait for further updates.
Police and emergency services are in attendance. At this stage there is no forecast of when the line can be reopened. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Those of us that live in Sydney may care to offer a bed to Coasties who can't get home. We have a couple of beds, one of which has been offered. Others who live here may care to place availability on this forum. Please, show some of our Mariner spirit and help out if you can.
I wish those that live in the fire area all the best and hope that you and yours are safe and well.
If anyone has problems, either PM me or call 0402 849 910. I'm here at Fortress Broadway until 5.30pm.
Best regards,
Auburn
LATEST ARTICLE
""Roads and train lines to the north of Sydney have been shut as firefighters battle a raging bushfire moving towards the town of Berowra.
The F3 Freeway and Pacific Highway between Berowra and Chase Road have been closed, as well as the rail line between Sydney and Newcastle.
Homes in Berowra are not at directly at risk from the fire, but burning embers which could be blown onto rooftops pose a threat.
"There is not a wall of fire going through Berowra, no properties are under threat,'' said NSW Rural Fire Service spokesman Cameron Wade.
"There's the potential for embers to be blown onto properties and that is our concern at the moment.''
A town meeting has been scheduled for 5.30pm at Berowra Oval.
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Assistant Commissioner Rob Rogers also warned of the threat of embers.
"There is obviously the ember attack issue and that's something we can't control - embers can travel hundreds of metres and we can't necessarily see where every ember lands.''
He said the RFS was using all the necessary resources, including two skycrane helicopters and four medium "attack helicopters''.
"We've got a lot of airpower on this fire, we've got every single appliance that they have asked for,'' he said.
"It's a huge focus of effort so I'm quite comfortable with the fact that we'll protect property under these conditions.''
There are now 300 firefighters battling the fire.
The F3 was closed yesterday after the fire started in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park about 5pm. It was reopened about 9.30am today before being closed again soon after.
All motorists are advised to avoid this area, however an RTA spokesman said an alternative route via Windsor along Wisemans Ferry Road was open.
Train commuters have also been urged to postpone travel to the north if they can.
"Major delays are expected, we are urging anyone travelling north of Hornsby or south of Cowan to postpone travel,'' a CityRail spokesman said.
He added that CityRail bus services were on standby should the F3 and Pacific Highways be re-opened before the rail line.
Commuters have been warned that cancelled trains cannot be replaced by buses due to the closure of the F3 and Pacific Highways.
The spokesman said authorities did not know when the line would be re-opened.
"We are monitoring the situation very closely with the RTA and the NSW fire service,'' he said.
The suspension is creating delays on the North Shore, Northern and Newcastle-central Coast lines ahead of this afternoon's peak period.
A fire spokesman said the suburb of North Turramurra and Duffys Forest, to the south of the fire, could come under threat with a wind change.
Fire crews have backburned to contain the main fire on the southern side and will work to establish containment lines on the northern side near Berowra.
This afternoon winds up to 40kmh are expected to come from the south-south-east.""

I luckily decided not to leave for work at my normal time due to the traffic. I figured i'd wait a while, and see if the traffic starts to clear. Oh no, it just got worse. The shut the F3, then the pacific hwy, then, no trains.
I'm really glad I didn't go as its one of my worst nightmares to get stuck at work and not be able to get home. I really don't fancy hanging out in Blacktown for the night.
Dad's stuck, AND left his wallet at home today!! Lucky for him he has friends he can stay with.
Good luck to any others who are stuck. I hope you make it home soon and safely.

North Shore, Northern and Newcastle & Central Coast Lines - Major delays

CityRail advises that train services have resumed in the North bound direction only. Trains from Newcastle to the City remain suspended, due to a bushfire causing the line to be closed for safety reasons at Mt Kuring-Gai. Major delays can still be expected.
