Does anyone know if John Singleton has anything to do with the Mariners ? As we are playing in his stadium, I was wondering if he may want to hand some money our way to buy a big name player. Just as La Pailaga did for Bling Bling FC.

Just as La Pailaga did for Bling Bling FC. John Singleton is on the board of the FFA so any financial involvement with the Mariners would be a conflict of interest. John Singleton doesn't own the stadium - it owned by the people of Gosford and administered by Gosford City Council. In turn Gosford Council has farmed the marketing and management rights to John Singleton.

In turn Gosford Council has farmed the marketing and management rights to John Singleton. And even further, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Singo is only a part owner of the marketing company who own the rights? Not that I can really envisage Singo investing in an A-League team, and even though Lowy did it by defacto with his son, in this new age it would probably easily be construed as a serious conflict of interest for him to do so whilst still on the FFA board. But he won't be on the board forever, and he's a businessman, and obviously has a lot of dosh. He's made no secret of the fact that he has for quite some time wanted to see the stadium home to a national league team. From a personal perspective, he'd probably still prefer to see it go to a Rugby League team, but he is a businessman and he went to the final last week (the first game of football he has been to in yonks, apparently) and was, and I quote "blown away" by the passionate support and atmosphere at the ground. He was very impressed, so I heard. I didn't hear it, but a mate of mine told me about a football program on the radio the other night where Singo said as such. They also talked about the fact he will obviously be overseeing the upcoming A-League Marketing campaign. If he liked what he saw guys, perhaps the Marinators have a good shot at becoming the 'face' of the A-League in his campaigns. Who's got Singo's number? Did you guys hear that he wanted to bet Walter Bugno $100,000 that the Mariners would win? www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,15297302%255E2722,00.html Lucky Bugno didn't take him up on it. That could have turned him off the Mariners for good.

Singo is a top bloke, i spent 2 weeks in a hospital ward with him when he had a knee reconstruction done several years ago. John would sing out to me to get him his cuppa's.
I dont think he will have forgotten me, just as i havent forgotten that he told me if i ever needed anything i should give him a call.
Havent had to use that favour yet !

Singleton is a central coast man first and a rugby league man second and he's showing that this is a club for people from all walks life. Good to see him there getting behind it.
As for signing a big name player, the Mariners said they didn't want a big name 'marquee' signing formany reasons including the posibility of destabilising the team, it bloody worked so far, Bling FC will end up like the Lakers, all those players want to be famous in their own right (sorry for a basketball reference).
