Not necessarily Spirit supporters, the reference to Spirit was just intended as an example. You were the ones who raised the 'Bobstanders' as an example, not me. You've gone on and contradicted yourself because you go on and set yourself up as the arbiter of wit, behaviour, and singing. I've seen it many times before, and it creates disaharmony. In my humble opinion it's fine to say "I hate this or that song", but to deride a group of supporters because of their preference for a song undermines the group effort. And before you jump to the conclusion - I'm not a Bob Stander, nor their defender, having in fact sung in opposition them on a number of occasions.
Everyone comes to the Mariners with past favourite songs, so what have you got against Breakers\Rowdies songs? Once again you are deriding a supporters group keen to get behind the Mariners. For what reason? It's not as if the 'Rowdies songs' are in any way unique. Considering that the Breakers\Rowdies fans come from Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney, what's your beef?
The Rowdies were about passion, loyalty, vocal support, match atmosphere - that is the revival the Rowdies are looking for in the Mariners. Is that a bad desire?
Oh my, you're gonna hate us then! What do you prefer silence? What's the problem? Can't you sing and watch at the same time?
Your opinion and that's fine. I can't comment, but I'd be surprised to find a football song that wasn't 'childish'.
Example please. Most football songs are usually sparked by onfield events, but there is always the occasional break in play were a 'mad moments' and nonsense songs are appropriate.
That was never a chance at the Breakers unless it was a supremely crap game, in which case the message to the players was a clear "We are here and we are bored".
Define 'wit'. Examples please. The Breakers\Rowdies like to think they were witty, but I guess it is a matter of taste. All I can say is that some of the songs brought tears of laughter to my cynical eyes, eg. the Goalkeeper reversing 'song'. Like many things, it was all in the timing. The Bay 23 fans (of which I claim to be one) turn out a mix of great and midless witless songs. But it all adds to the atmosphere.
Some of it is in the past yes, but forget - never. We all come with a proud supporting history. That's like saying forget Johnny Warren - he's in the past. As for the Rowdies, they are still an active group, but no one is suggesting seriously that they be the Central Coast group. The Mariners vocal fans (from whatever past group) need to create their own identity.
The Celery Song has broader use than as a Breakers signature song, but I suppose that as it is the Rowdies theme song I understand your point. I'm not trying to force the Celery song onto anyone, just consider it as a nonsense song for an appropriate moment. The concensus view should ultimately select the Mariners signature tune (and name of the vocal supporters group).
Ditto!
Ditto, but leave me out of the beer showers, unless it is after a good goal!

why pollute it with old rubbish. It wont help anyone if we hold onto spirit or the breakers. "Old rubbish"? - What offensive crap No arguement there.

As I think I've posted before I am ex-Spirit, but Spirit died with the NSL. The A league is the future and the CCFC is now my team, I'm sure some songs from NSO and Newcastle will be 'Marinerised", but many of them have already adapted from songs sung at british grounds for many a year. For example, I remember singing "Oh East London" on the south bank at Upton Park at least 20 years before I'd heard of North Sydney, but once I found out that it was also (allegedly) full of t*ts and f*nny, it didn't take long until I was belting out the adapted version with the same passion as all those years before! Crap songs will be weeded out soon enough once the games commence, although I agree with an earlier suggestion about test running a few at Coastie games before the main event...
Having said that I do "still hate the bob stand", drums and balloons may have their place, at an under 7s birthday party, but not at the football - PLEASE!!!!!!!

As an ex breakers (rowdie), spirit fan and marconi fan, ;D I find the games are more exciting with the support of 'out there' fans. I agree that we "the marinators" should have our own songs, but untill we find our ground, whats the harm in using some old songs from other clubs? I agree with Sacko, that all songs origniate from somewhere... And if you dont like the songs we have, then make up your own/ suggest some new ones (on a post or something) or just shut up... and P.S- Celery is still one of my favourite 'rowdie' songs, even as a 13 year old girl at breakers matches i enjoyed it...

Celery is still one of my favourite 'rowdie' songs, even as a 13 year old girl at breakers matches i enjoyed it... MarinerMick and I discussed at the end of the game how funny it was that the Celery song has found a home at Mariners Stadium without either of us doing much to provoke it. It certainly seemed popular on the night. However, I tip my hat to the genius who thought up the "He plays in red and blue, he's not a Socceroo, Ned Zelic" chant. Brilliant! If that is the level of talent, we're in for some fun times ahead. Just an example of how the Marinators have cleverly mixed old songs with new to come up with their own brand. I only ask that we ditch the "Swing low, sweet chariot" chant. If I want that I'll go to a Rugger match.

For those posting saying they know nothing about the rowdies, the link included in a previous post has their history and other info on it.....this requires the reading skill ;D
My one question though, why arent the Rowdies following the Newcastle Jets as opposed to the Mariners?
Its funny, I have always followed the english leagues (top to bottom) and never bothered following the local game. That is changing now thanks to the local team. I also realise that if people like me ignore the local comp for foreign leagues then it wont get off the ground.
Season tickets are on the way ;D ;D ;D

Oh yes, and one more point:
Any supporter can support the team in anyway they like. If that means Rowdies using Rowdy songs and ex-spirit\breaker\whatevers drumming up their old battle tunes then so be it.
We are all free to do as we please, and who cares what the bloke next to you is singing about or wearing, he's a Mariner now and thats the main thing.
The Club is brand new and hopefully has a big future ahead of it both on and off the field, the Marinators will hopefully be a big part of that.
Now I would also like to point out that the Marinators are 1 supporters group, and not the only Supporters. They do not force membership on anyone, nor would they look down on the other supporters, they are just there to enjoy the games and from where I was sitting on Saturday night, they were damn good for the atmosphere.
You can all go out and start your own groups if you so wish, no one is saying you cant, but for all those interested who want to try something different (myself included) its good to see a seasoned bunch of supporters who will be at the games and having a good time and can show some of the newer fans alternative ways to enjoy a football match ;D
I have been through alot of the posts here and there are already arguments between fans sprouting up and that is not good people.
We are all Mariners - some of you are Marinators aswell - The bottom line is we are all following the same team!!
None of us own the club so dont tell the next person how they should be supporting it.
