The Celery song!
Surely you've heard it.
It will most definitely be sung.

You're right, I am not a Rowdy and have absolutely no idea what it means - although I still think it is amusing for some reason. But to be honest mate, I hate celery, it makes me gag, so perhaps would have prefered if her bum was hit with a carrot, instead.

Mr Celery can maybe give us a quick synopsis of the history of celery and the Rowdies?

Ah yes, Celery! Some of my fondest memories of footballoo games at the Football Stadium (Now Aussie) and at Parramatta Stadium for WC romps are of Rowdies in fluoro overalls, waving stalks of celery in the air, singing the anthem (the celery song that is).
Cheers,
Willie. P.S. Even though I agree with the idea of the game being correctly called football instead of that other word, I can't quite come to grips with "footballoo" which I think the administrator cleverly substituted for my originial text.

As a ex-bob stander I resemble that remark Seriously last thing we need is this bob stand/mac terrace cr@pola at the Mariners. Hopefully Mac Terrace/Bob Stand can combine into one group instead of these supporter "factions" along with the Rowdies and anyone else willing to make some noise and support the boys

Striker, it's a worry but I fear you may be correct. Uh, oh, do I detect the start of some self appointed song NAZI's who think their songs are somehow better and want to relive the splintered ineffectual effort that was Spirit. The reason the Breakers Rowdies were so effective was that there were no splinter groups that derided each other, or tried to drown each other out. Either you sang the song, or you shut up and sang yours next. 70 out of a possible 100 vocal supporters singing the same song is infinitely more effective than four groups of 25 each trying to outdo the others. Let the effort on match days decide what works and what doesn't. Crap songs are usually weeded out pretty quickly. But then in all reality, all chants are crap songs. Some are just a tiny bit crappier than others. Not everyone wants to sing polite songs and blow up balloons, but then not everyone wants to be a 'Millwall Bovver Booted Nutter' breaking stadium seats and throwing flares either. There must be some middle ground that enables us to put up a co-ordinated united front against the visiting supporters.

"Uh, oh, do I detect the start of some self appointed song NAZI's who think their songs are somehow better and want to relive the splintered ineffectual effort that was Spirit." OK this will be my one serious post. Your interpretation of my email is totally flawed and your response quoted above is offensive. So far I have seen no ex Spirit supporters trying to push their songs or culture. However what I have seen is countless posts as to how the future is going to be revived Breaker Rowdies and Rowdies' songs. My comment and Striker's referred to what many found irritating with the Bob Stand. This was the continuous, non stop, from kick off to full time, singing, most of which was childish and not relevant to what was happening on the pitch. The football became secondary. Also most of all the chanting lacked any form of wit. I do not wish to be part of that sort of mindless support. My suggestion. Forget the Macs, the Bobs and the Rowdies. That is all in the past. Find a new name for whatever supporters group evolves or preferably let a new name happen. I feel Celery, like Oh North Sydney... are signature songs of other bygone teams. Develop a new original signature song or songs, then pick the eyes out of the Breakers and Spirit generalist songs along with some traditional oldies. How about some new verses for "In you Adelaide/Melbourne/ Newcastle/....slums." I also do not want polite, balloons, or hooligans. I want good football, good appropriate Mariner songs, beer showers and lots of fun.

i agree. its better for all concerned if we learn from the past & move on. its a new league, new team, new culture- why pollute it with old rubbish. It wont help anyone if we hold onto spirit or the breakers. One team, on and off the field.
