I think it is premature to have a poll about a permanent official name!
I like 'The Marinators', for use for the WCC and pre-season games, and thus on the T-Shirts, but in the advertising parlance ... lets run that one up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes!
The name plays on three levels - Mariners, plus Terminators, and Marinated! However we may get sick of the joke, or not.
The best names grow out of the fans as they meet. The time for a poll would be just before the A-League season.
Note the Rowdies will most likely continue as a sub-group, and there will be many of those as it did at Breakers - no problem as long as it doesn't get to the state of Spirit (Bob Stand vs McCartney) or the Sydney FC forum - what a farce on their forum! I'll be spying on them at Cromer Park on Saturday 5pm - Manly UFC vs Sydney FC trial.

I agree, I also like the idea for now, but lets see if it sticks, and see what else we grow into before A-League time. I'm sure we will all gradually meet up more frequently between now and August so something else might pop up based around an experience or a joke the group has rather than decided now by a random poll.

Its a start, do any of the others have a supporters group name?
The collective noun for a group of Mariners supporters would be a "Marination"

"Lawrie's Seamen"
Good humour. Good imagery.
In any case those ideas were at least original. Seems to me that Marinators is popular due to a lack of any competition rather than any real originality, comedy or meaning on its part. There's really nothing wrong with it, I think it's OK, so maybe I'm being a negative nelly for no reason. But I just cant help but think that forcing a decision now (when it's not yet necessary) could mean blocking out something better that may or may not come along later.

Yes, I think you all have a point here. Marinators sounds pretty good for now, but we're not even into the preseason for goodnessakes. Let's use it for May 7, but reserve final judgement until shortly before the official kickoff in August.
Still, gotta love the association with alcohol that 'Marinators' and 'Marinated' suggest. Then again, I am pretty tickled with Mr Celery's nautical and piratical references too. Aaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

If the Rowdies are going to be a seperate supporters group wouldn't it be a good idea to uld these two groups together (or at least be affiliated with eachother yelling from each side of the ground, no escape) having the same chants and songs and the like would be fantastic, I don't really mind what the name is either way I love the idea.
GO THE MARINERS!

GO THE MARINERS! The Rowdies won't be a separate group. We will fit under the name that is decided by the collective (mmm we must be Borgs). The Rwodies will continue to be the Rowdies as we have chosen to support the Mariners. However, we will not be part of a breakaway group with a separate area and chants. We need one singing voice to be effective, especially when we play Sydney. Mr Celery, I hope I am not be presumptious in saying this.

That's what I was hoping mick, just didn't want to make it look like I was pushing a name change on the rowdies.

Isn't a little to close to the "masturbators" ? Sorry not sure if this is breaking some sort of usage rule.

Names for supporters? Places to drink before? Places to drink after? Making sure they have enough staff on?! Its all very organized!!!
Regarding the name. For me, Marinators? Nope no good. From experience (ie the McCartney), these things sometimes happen by accident. At NSO, I think the label came in a programme or the ground announcer did it. From there, it stuck. We were just a bunch of eejits that stood in the same place. We didnt think "quick, we gotta have a name!".
As far as drinky poohs before and after, bugger it, I am going to the Leagues Club. Its cheap and its close, two real positives. So they support Rugby League? Big deal. Whatever I spend there every second week wont make hee haw of difference. Iguana's looks wank and they wont smile at you disco night. Never been to Gosford Hotel.

I'm sure it will be OK to retain your Rowdies 'passport' and still be a fully fledged member of the Mariners vocal supporters group! But this Rowdie will be 100% focussed on the Mariners, and 200% focussed on beating Uknighted Jets.

The Gosford Hotel is alright - it has the potential to be the new "percy's" and would be ok for the Friday night games for a quick pre-match feed off the flyer..
