ok, this is what i propose:
- leave a couple of weeks longer and tie it in with the logo/website launch - date i suggest is staurday afternoon 16th july - gives us plenty of time to work on it and is a good lead up for the next week - we play our charity game and even ask if we can use the stadium (don't like our chances but we can give it a go) - play sydney fans and borrow strips from the respective clubs - have mariners or lawrie or fergie ref the game - definitely make it a charity event - i suggest something youth orientated - have post-match function at leaguesy where we launch website/logo/patron - given the bigness of the event more chance that singo will come and we will ask him to sponsor the trophy - let's not rush this as it can be very important to us
thoughts?

I thought you were going to stay out of this one mick? Glad to have you on board. The thought of tieing it in with our launch crossed my mind, but my original image was of a few of us kicking a ball and having a beer after. After talking with Lou, we started aiming a lot higher its sounding a lot more like what Mick said. I dont see any reason it cant be left a few weeks longer, just means more time to put it together. I also thought about the stadium but I dismissed it as soon as it popped into my head. Surely that would be too perfect. I guess we may as well try, maybe the fact we're all going to buy season tickets would help convince them. If not Lou and I reckon either Pluim Park or asking a local CC side to host us for an afternoon. More of a community sausage sizzle charity raffle type event. If we could get the stadium that would have to be the go but. If you think borrowing strips and booking lawrie or fergie + singo are possibilities then hell yes! Lou has posted on the Sydney forums to see if they are interested and the inital response looks good.

I also thought the Ice Hockey handing out flyers to everyone, Marinators, other fans, Mariners players, with chants on them for the ice hockey match. On the back would be a very convenient place for a "Come to the Marinators charity shield! Watch the mighty Marinators vs the Bling Boys as we pit our best against some of Sydney FC's finest fans! All for charity!"
We are taking time out to support the hockey fans sport, I think if we leave a good impression some of them may decide to come and support us.

Ah, Sat 16/7 - that means we need to find out what the club's plans are for their own launch - we wouldn't want to clash! I'll see what I can find out today. I also wonder whether FFA and the club's PR for the media for the pre-season Cup the next weekend may swamp our efforts!

I think that they should be separate events. because as Kevrenor says, they are going to be flat chat around the weekend before that first match. I think your idea of the stadium etc is excellent and worth striving for, but something to build up to maybe next year? I'm not sure whether something on that scale can be organised properly in the short time we now have. The other thing to be mindfull of here also is the 'politics' of the situation. I think that any club is going to be hesitant to associate themselves fully with an event that has the possibility of 'erupting' in a detrtrimental way and biting them in the arse severly (fact is, it won't , but they don't know that) however, If we can pull this off on a slightly smaller scale as a major success, they will want to jump on board next time especially if we get the media attention this year that WT and myself have been talking about!(in our private messages) The 'launch' of the website/shirts/logo etc can be closer to the season start and gives us yet another opportunity to get the press involved leading up to the start of the A league. The 'Marinators Charity Shield' we were looking at for July 3rd, which is far enough away from the first pre season match on the 23rd july and that leaves plenty of time to organise the 'web launch' before the season starts....or maybe in conjuction with that first pre season match on the 23rd?

Just had a long chat with Ben Coonan from the Mariners this morning as he was very keen on the idea. He is going back to Sarah Buggy (Operations Manager) this morning to discuss the idea. His thoughts: - It doesn't clash with anything they have planned and July 16 is a perfect date - They could tie it in with a "Meet the Mariners" day and BBQ at lunch with our match then being the show piece at the stadium, then we can have our drinkies and launch afterwards - Given all the crap lately, the day can also be used as a statement against racism - They are currently looking at youth suicide as a charity they can support The other thing that might take time to organise is insurance. This really has to be done, because it is still an organised event. If someone gets really hurt then whoever organised the event could get sued and lose their house and all their assets. Mr Celery, how was the insurance organised with the Rowdies Tournament, by whom, and costs?

it sounds like a great day. Might even catch up with my mighty Manly Sea Eagles the same weekend ;D
Anyways keep me posted.

Ben said advertising for the pre-season will be very low key The Chairman Lyall Gorman has just confirmed that to me too. They will have trials (which he will keep us informed of) which may of course clash but no launch as such. One thought is about the game, which day - Sat 16 or Sun 17 would be best - will the potential players be playing their own games on Saturday!? Thanks to all those doing the leg work on it!

I'd suggest the later in the afternoon the more juniors that would be able to come.

Well if the mariners are keen and can ok the venue....that solves a lot of dramas!(and dispells any fears I thought they may have, making it a 'hard sell' for us) If it doesn't happen at their venue, our fall back plan could quite easily take over though. (we would just need Ourimbah's ground......mick?) So now we should get Charles involved also, maybe they might supply another prize for a raffle? I think we have to go for a Saturday (given that most seniors play on sunday) so we are trying for 16th?
