Getting closer folks, first game is next month! ( sounds much closer when you say it like that!) Sure its only a pre season game, but a game's a game! "Here we go, here we go, here we go!..."

given that it is over a month away - maybe we should just run some impromptu games - marinators V Rhinos??? I'm itching to see another game (maybe I should see a doctor about it)
Anyone else having a great time getting into Man U fans?

Well hey why dont we make a couple of teams out of marinators and play each other? Just for a bit of fun and another excuse to get together and have a few beers between now and those games (so far away ) Or perhaps we could select a Marinators XI and ask the sydney boys if they want to make a team and come up to have a kick? Now THAT would make for good publicity. Better make that a Marinators 20 man squad - I dont know if we have many fit enough to play a full match ;D

Late June works for me.
Just wondering where we would play it. There's that field at Gosford Primary School, which for those that dont know is the one right near the stadium right across the road from the Kendall bar. I'll have to go have a look to make sure it's marked out and everything. If we tried to get on a club's ground eg Wyoming's Alan Davidson Oval I dont think they would let us, we'd just be chopping up their turf for no gain to them, unless we changed it to a sevens match and played it on a midsized field.
Mick do you reckon the Sydney boys would want to do it/would guys come up wanting to play it in good spirits? If we put it on their forum I wouldn't be half surprised if a bunch of psychos came up taking it as a good opportunity to kick our shins in. Or if nothing more it could make the game more competitive than I could be bothered to play in!
Are other people keen on this idea? What do you think about playing against Sydney or playing amongst ourselves? And I would imagine if this gets off the ground that a lot of Marinators would come and enjoy the day, not just those playing so we need some sideline supporters too!

I think its a top idea WT (as usual mate!) and whats more I thing the syd fc boys would be in it and for the right reasons (not to kick anyones shins but for the game itself) And yes, it would make for excellent publicity....especially if we make it an 'anual event' . Lets start the 'Marinator Charity Shield' match. Players pay $5 or $10 to play, spectators donate what they can and we donate it to a local charity! I can see that it would get bigger every year! The problem is in getting a ground that allows alcohol on the sidelines!

Yeah I know you're busy I wasn't going to put anything on you for this one. Me and Lou can handle it.
Just asking since you are on their forum a bit from what I know and thought you might have had more of an idea.
Lou- instead of a charity why dont we try gather some funds from it for our banners and stuff? Not meaning to sound uncharitable but our own funds have to be raised somewhere and this is as good a chance as any.
I think at the Ice Hockey I'll spread the word around to see if people are keen, and tell them to get on the forums to 'register themselves'. Not many people are visiting the forums at the moment so we're not going to be able to fill one team let alone two with the current interest.

I think we get our 'banner funds' from elsewhere 'Captain'. Reason being, if we get this organised with another team (jets fans if fc fans are busy?) and have it as a 'charity' thing amongst the supporters, the publicity would be fantastic if we can build it to a decent level. Maybe we can have a separate game for Marinators v Marinators and use THAT game to raise banner funds? I can speak to the fc fans (or jets fans) via their site to find out if they're interested?

When do we want to have this charity game? How does the end of June sound...say 25th/26th? Do you guys play your normal comp on a Sat or a sun? I know any '18's we get play on fri pm. Would it be worth while contacting CCUFC to find out if they see the value (for football in general) in promoting an anual 'charity shield' between supporters and have them 'donate' one of their secondary fields for the event?

I'm in!
As for fitness - I reckon I could last 120 minutes and a shootout... small problem - I'm s***house.
25th is probably my younger brothers birthday. I like the idea of playing it at the field next to gossie PS in the shadow of the stadium, but it'd probably be better on a football field.

I went and checked out that oval this arvo, it's in good nick, its got posts up, but no lines marked. It would also be easiest to get to. I think if the Marinators end up playing each other then this is the best place to go, its right next the leaguesy and we wont get up anyones nose being there. If we're making it a charity shield like Lou and Me have envisaged, a proper field will be the go.
