As The first Home game draw's near I would like to change the voting format.
I would like to have 10 or so people who vote on every home game for three players allocating them points 3,2,1.
I feel this is a fairer, and more even across the season. As I'm sure you were like me trying to rememeber games at the begining of the season but could only remember heff's header against The Jets??
Any other suggestions?

Any other suggestions? I presume from your concern about remembering back over the season that you are talking about the player of the year award here, not the man of the match. If so it has some merit, however I would note: a) The 10, or some other number of people, may not be able to see every game live and this would need to be factored in - eg. TV, or access to recordings b) Of course would need to be willing to do it all year. c) To remain a Marinators award the people doing it would have to nominated/elected/agreed by Marinators generally. d) The club awards its own player of the year - so last year we had to seperately award it - should we still do one formally, or convince the club for us to run one for all fans as the official supporters award, or what?, There is a potential problem between club, members, supporters, and marinators awards - all of which could be run. For the Man of the Match I believe the memory problem is non-existant and that an open poll each week is still the best, particularly as it generates discussion and debate, and is another way of all mariners fans participating and being drawn into the marinators fold. Kevrenor PS. it also reminds me of the need to decide before too long (and liaise with the club) on whether we will have a separate supporters end of year function, with players involved or even if not.

it's worth discussing
i feel it is a marinators award and everyone should get an opportunity to contribute to the voting, not just an elite ten
the marinators are a community and all inclusive
as golden boy said - too oligarchal
on the other han, pieman's suggestions are certainly fairer andmore consistant

Ive spoken to Adz about putting it on the Marinators.net front page so if people only go to that site and not the forum then they are able to vote.I think 3-2-1- is a great idea as players who consistently play well but miss the MOM award can accumulate points say for instance Wilko he was outstanding last year and recieved little recognition for it whereas if someone scored a cracking goal that stayed in your mind more when you voted

The issue is what sort of poll/s, and who votes. Having said that the 1-2-3 vote would be good, even for the weekly poll.

A 3-2-1 open to everyone would be the way to go IMHO Voting to be done on this forum, with someone tallying the votes each week, and a updated scoreboard posted on marinators.net Why I suggested votes be done here rather than marinators.net is that more people would be on here usually than the website.

I think 3-2-1 is a great idea, but yea would rather it not be down to just an elite 10.

how about we vote on marinators.net a 3-2-1 every game, every person
the votes are then tallyed and the highest three players get 3, 2, 1 respectively
this can be added up for the final tally to get our winner
in this way everyone has a chance to vote and the fact that some weeks there will be more voters will be negated
just a thought

The only thing about everyone voting is that there will be different amount's of people voting each week therefore not making is fair? If you have a selected 10(or so) there is consistency. Mick how many people Votes for player/goal of year?

I think if you let everyone vote, tally those votes, then apply 3-2-1 that would make it fair.

Mick how many people Votes for player/goal of year? yeah, i went through this debate with honey soy and teriyaki in the car on the way to the game that is why after we get the final votes for the round we allocate a 3-2-1 for that round based on the three highest numbers of votes this negates the difference in voting numbers certainly having ten will create consistency but it also creates a narrow sample therefore making results more inaccurate (my stats 101 subject coming in handy there) there is also the whole shit-fight on who are to be the elite ten and why they should be priveleged to vote

I just had to re-read that... have people vote for their player of the round, they vote for a single player, highest number gets player of the round. Then add up all the votes and the top three go 3, 2, 1 towards player of the season, rather than having everyone vote 3, 2, 1 each week, highest count gets player of the round, and having that totalled at the end of the season...?
