We are Coasties, we are here Shag your women and drink your beer With a nick knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone Newcastle can f*ck off home (or "Coastie boys are coming home" as appropriate) Listening to the Cove last night I noted with interest that they've co-opted the "nah nah nah nah nah nah naaaaaaaah, AUSTRALIAAAAA" chant, but just replaced it with "Sydney FC". Not sure if we'd want to do the same and just use "THE MAAARRIINNNEEEEERS". It could work, and I know it's not original, but as long as we didn't kill it. I thought the "standard World Cup chant" that we used at the Perth game was a success and needs to be slowed down just a bit so that everyone can get involved - the "whoa oh, whoa oh, whoa oh whoa oh whoa ohhhhh, whoaaaaa whooooaaaa, whoaa whoa whoa whoa, whoa ohhhhhhh, whoa oh MARINERS" (shit description, but you surely all know the one I mean). And we need to start getting serious about composing/co-opting some sort of a melodic anthem that everyone can learn the words to (a la You'll Never Walk Alone, but less shit ) |

I agree serious, we need a club song/chant, that isn't just a knockabout. Something that gets sung at the start to let the opposition know....WE ARE THE MARINERS. Rar. Etc.

To be honest James if we can't handle that chant, which is seriously quite simple, we may as well sing 'Mariners clap clap clap' for 90 minutes.
What I'd also like to get going is the verse of yellow football team in my signature there. I feel it will actually get people singing the 'We all follow a yellow football team!' part with a bit of enthusiasm because that is sorely lacking these days.
I'm also daily trying to contrive some kind of new leader-response chant. Sydney and Melbourne have great ones and I think they are really effective.
