To be honest James if we can't handle that chant, which is seriously quite simple, we may as well sing 'Mariners clap clap clap' for 90 minutes. Which one mate, the "knick nack paddywhack" one?? Or the "World Cup" one??

Nah sorry I meant my one which you asked whether we'd be able to remember when drunk. Yeah it may take a few weeks to learn but we need better chants, we need to persist with new ones til people do pick them up.
I've seen great new chants from Pollock and Permboy disappear because people hadn't heard it before and didn't give them a chance.

Well rest assured I'm going to cane the Knick Nack Paddywhack one on the bus and in the ground on Sunday until I'm either dickheaded (which would be poor form - I mean, how DARE I introduce a new chant) or it gets picked up. It's all a bit of fun that one.
As for the 'World Cup' one - I can see that one as a real chance to add some visual flair. 10 people scarf waving is okay - 500 doing it is awesome. And what I'm gonna say here will segue into the next paragraph nicely too - the only reason this one was only done once last time was 'cause the teenagers decided that speeding the chant up was a good idea......... segue-ing into:
Our clapping and chanting really does need to be slowed down. Not to the point of a funeral march, but to the point of "everyone can now understand what we're saying and will join in". Pollock's "Mariners fans in the stands...." - good enough chant, but done WAY too fast and dies accordingly after 2 or 3 repetitions.
I also see no reason we can't have a melodic anthem going by the end of the season. I also really don't care if we co-opt a popular tune, 'cause that will make it easier for everyone to get into it. Who is to say that in Round 21 we won't be down the front of the Bay leading everyone in a stirring rendition of whatever tune it is that is decided upon??
Yes, call me a dreamer...... but this is something I believe in and want to see come true.

I think chants that are basic shouldn't go for too long. that's why they do fade out and become a mumble.
If it is something straight forward as mariners fans in the stands etc or stand up for the mariners, and chants like those should only go for 3 times, 4 times maximum. The more you repeat it, the more likely the "chanters" get tired of it themselves and one by one people stop.

Oh and jimmy if you get dickheaded its not because your introducing radical new ideas, its cause your a dickhead Give me back my cutlery smartarse. On a chanting note - send your Christmas carol one to Erin and get it put on the flier. Or just perhaps adapt it into a non-team specific chant, just a general chant about how good the Mariners is.

The simple chants need to go for longer, not shorter. What's happening at the moment is that the group that starts it is finished by the time the Marinators in the further areas of ay 16 have picked it up. We need to sing it 5 or 6 times so that our whole group is singing it together. Then we need to keep right on singing it so that the other Mariners fans have a chance to hear it and join in.

Not just singing shorter songs for longer...we need to find/create some more songs which are longer or can be carried onto similar songs(eg tigers ants go marching one, all three could be sung after one another, plus his wayno one from last season)

I stand (well actually i'm sitting) corrected. Your right Brett, it does take a while for others to hear and therefore catch on. Lamese and I have been sitting on the other side of bay 16 (bay 17 side) and try and encourage those on that side to join in. All the big voices and chant starters are all on one side of the bay. We may not be as loud as you guys but boy can we look scary if people don't do what they're told!! Thank you brett for helping me to see the error in my post

Listening to the Cove last night I noted with interest that they've co-opted the "nah nah nah nah nah nah naaaaaaaah, AUSTRALIAAAAA" chant, but just replaced it with "Sydney FC". Not sure if we'd want to do the same and just use "THE MAAARRIINNNEEEEERS". It could work, and I know it's not original, but as long as we didn't kill it. I thought the "standard World Cup chant" that we used at the Perth game was a success and needs to be slowed down just a bit so that everyone can get involved - the "whoa oh, whoa oh, whoa oh whoa oh whoa ohhhhh, whoaaaaa whooooaaaa, whoaa whoa whoa whoa, whoa ohhhhhhh, whoa oh MARINERS" (shit description, but you surely all know the one I mean). )) Im just tossing up ideas.....maybe "WEEE LOOVVEE THE COAST" or "THE CEENNTRRALLL COOASST"

To the tune of Alphaville's 'Forever Young'
For the Jest:
Forever shite, you are forever shite Do you really want to live forever, forever shite Forever shite, you are forever shite Do you really want to live forever, forever shite
For the Mariners (needs more work):
Lets dance in style, lets dance for a while Heaven can wait were only watching the boys Hoping for the best but expecting the worst Are you going to drop a goal or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever We dont have the power but we never say never Sitting in Bay 16, life is a short trip The Squadron's for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won Turn our golden faces into the sun Praising our Lawrie were getting in tune The musics played by the madmen
Forever yellow, I want to be forever yellow We really want to win forever, forever win Forever yellow, I want to be forever yellow We really want to win forever, forever win
