I think it all comes down to the Wellington traditions. Wellington is yellow with black shorts in rubgy super 14.

If the league eventually expans to say 12 or 14 teams. I find it doubtful that there wont be some similar colours to other teams in the future. They are white when they get to bluetongue, and red with embaresement for being played off the park when they leave.

Gold lame bikinis and rollerskates I’d guess. what colours are west sydney int he basketball? navy, white, yellow and red trim can't remember the colours of Canberra red? wollongong are red so that clashes with adelaide geelong are blue in the afl so that clashes with melbourne geelong wear navy hoops on white. There’ll be clashes, but we have away kits for that and when hoops and stripes come in, that will help.

regarding wellington, they didnt want black and white only for their strip...too similar to their sheep...they already have enough identity issues when it comes to them. black and white jerseys would confuse them even more

Newcastle Breakers Wave/Ball logo + Hunter Mariners Rugby League team colours = hardly original yourselves. Not trolling for crap, but just making a point. In the context of what's already in the league..... The Hyundai A-League that is! B: That's why i emphasisied that the Phoenix should lay claim in the 'court of public opinion' to BLACK before another team that is introduced in the coming years. So what if Wellingtons traditional cours for their rugby team is Yellow and Black...... this ain't Rugby. It's a completely different sport altogether and from a HAL Team's owner's perspective it would be in the owner's best interest to have club colours that are 'different' to that of a similar team from the same area in an alternate sport. WHY? $$$$$$$$hitloads of Merchandising Dollar$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Why didn't the Central Coast Rays Rugby team take on Yellow as their Colours in an attempt to identify with the people of the C Coast? Imagine how many scummers would of bought Jets team shirts and scarves, polos hat's etc if the HAL Jets were playing in the colours of RED & BLUE? Fcuking NONE! They'd all turn up in Newcastle Knights gear like the scumming bogans they are, just to save some money to re-render their fibro homes to 'blue-board'. So with this rule of thumb I'm sure the owners of Phoenix will be losing some merch. $'s in fans wearing the rugby gear along the same ethos of the The Scummer's with tight arses. Another reason Phoenix fans would look far better if they embraced the colour BLACK instead of OUR YELLOW is because every seat in their stadium IS Yellow, ther's no contrast if they all wear Yellow.

Serious and I commented on that when we watched the game. Couldn't really tell that easily how many people were there because it was all to similar to the seating.

That is the same with sydney. Light blue seating and shirts. Presumably best done when a stadium is like 3/4 full, so it looks basically entirely full.

It's a completely different sport altogether and from a HAL Team's owner's perspective it would be in the owner's best interest to have club colours that are 'different' to that of a similar team from the same area in an alternate sport. WHY? $$$$$$$$hitloads of Merchandising Dollar$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I disagree if I was responsible for creating community identity and getting bums on seats (yellow or otherwise) I'd opt for the colours that the locals already identify with. The A-league was no exception. Sydney FC chose sky blue a colour associated with NSW generally because it played into the state pride thing and helped that those on the fringe of the audience could come along in their warratahs jersey or NSW SoO strip and fit in. FC had more chance to steal 'tahs fans than NRL fans initially, and 'tahs fans already frequented "aussie" stadium dressed in sky blue. To a lesser extent Roar included "QLD" maroon in their strip as did Jets in the red an blue highlights. Now bring into play the NZ landscape of a Rugby mad nation and 2 teams (both their tradtitional Wellington Rugby team and their super 14 team) already sport strips of similar colours what easier way for people to show up first, then be enticed into the sport. If an entire city identifies itself with a set of colours it is not madness to fit in. I don't think that they shouldn't cop a tonn of sh!t for being second to market with it, I just think it isn't as rediculous as first stated. It is OUR YELLOW and we should let them know... as soon as any of them show up to Bluetongue... Does the club make "$$$$$$$$hitloads of Merchandising Dollar$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$" from gear sales. I wonder what the split is to Rebel and Reebok? I don't know but I wonder what helps the club more bums on seats or merch sales. If you had to trade one for the other what would you sacrificing. I would personally think that developing a large fan base would be a higher priority for club longevity than merchandise dollars but I may be totally wrong. Also "Why didn't the Central Coast Rays Rugby team take on Yellow as their Colours in an attempt to identify with the people of the C Coast" That's because one of the 3 other ARC teams from NSW the Sydney Fleet play in blue and yellow. The Fleet stole our maritime theme also. So you probably need a new cranky thread for that

Yes, but their colours are yellow and black. Their strip is predominantly black. Given that there's already a yellow team, why wouldn't the fans embrace black? Yellow Army was already taken, so they went with "yellow fever", which is second-rate at best. (Black plague would have been just as good)
That said, 2 teams with similar colours can only encourage the progression towards what you see in established leagues, where the patterns or layouts of the strips identify teams just as much as the colours. (eg. Arsenal + Man U + Liverpool = 3 established clubs with the same major colour but all unique)
