Who is the dude with the megaphone? He is doing a great job and our singing is getting better thanks to his and other Marinators efforts.

Brett was the only one I saw/heard on the Megaphone, (top job for the full 90 mate) I think we should have had both going. who had the other one? We're gonna need them both working in unisen against syd with more co-ordination between the 2 to get some of 15 and 17 involved.

yeah superb effort by brett, getting a couple more with megaphones all in sync would make a massive difference imo

Thanks for the feedback.
I was talking to Sacko after the game and he was mentioning that things are a bit too regimented. This sort of feedback is invaluable.
I am wondering what are other people's thoughts as a bit of a The Bay performance review. What is working, what isn't, how can we make it better?
More megaphones don't necessarily = more noise and it could be quite the opposite if not done right. Also, what is the best way to get bays 15 and 17 involved? Is there too much organised songs from the front and does the bay need to go back to being a bit more organic as Sacko suggested?
I don't think we have been very loud, despite improving. A lot of it comes down to personal responsibility. I face backwards a lot and there are often regulars not joining in...yes we all have our moments when we are engrossed in the game but we don't have enough numbers to 'let someone else sing this one'. I think we probably need less songs throughout the game if it means every person singing every one.

OK, since we're in the mood for constructive feedback, I hope i can word this so it comes across as intended...
IMHO, The advantage of "organic" over "regimented" is that songs seem to react to on-field incidents more. These tend to sometimes be a bit wittier than some of the generic, non-specific, pro-mariners chants. Also more relevant and forces a bit more variety. (IMO)
The disadvantage is that different people start up different songs from different areas, or the same song but out of synch. When this happens, they seem to persist with it just long enough for others join in, then just as it gets going it fizzes out - which is a huge shame (IMO). The songs don't necessarily need to go longer, but be more whole-hearted and in-synch from the start.
This is where i think the mega-person is an advantage; to achieve some co-ordination. Hopefully it's possible without others feeling left out or getting annoyed that a song they thought of doesn't get started. Ideally, if someone tries to start a song it should get going quicker with the help of the mega, and involve the whole bay in synch.
...IMHO

Brett, Well done mate you are doing a good job. Only one chant you tried to get going a few times that is a bit gay...the rest are excellent. Once people fire up when the game is exciting they will sing automatically. I loved the chant the long haired dude (looks a bit like Jesus but less hippy) was singing about "You'll never get a job...to the tune of You'll never walk alone"..that got me out of my seat and screaming at the scummers to the embarrassment of my wife and kids!

Brett
I think the "yellow army/mariners" half and half is good, but not all the time. The other night, at the buisness end of the game, the whole stadium was doing the "mariners, clap clap clap". Obviously they know it, so lets run with it.
Remember last year we did chants, and you got on the mega and got the bay to continue it for like 5 min??? I reckon run with that towards the end of the game to get the boys home.

Wasn't Jimmy. It was a Home End regular who looks like the love child of Charles Manson.
The chant was a clever pisstake on the Squadron to the tune of "You'll Never Walk Alone".

I reckon run with that towards the end of the game to get the boys home. Totally agree. I didn't start that one in the last twenty minutes. What happened was - every time I started Mariners CLAPCLAPCLAP to try to go along with the stadium, some guys would chuck the 'yellow army' in between. Same with starting yellow army and then chucking in 'mariners'. Need to think of a way around this.

Maybe if "mariners clap clap clap" is started, the few who start it could do the clap part with hands in the air, so the bay can see the clapping. Dunno, it might work, tho mariners fans are thick

I think we probably need less songs throughout the game if it means every person singing every one. Whilst some of the organic chants may not be for all tastes (e.g. the dog related chant against Queensland) imo they do add to the atmosphere and they can relate to the game / a player in question more than the standard efforts. What I was suggesting is that the main group be aware of other chants and either join in or at least wait until it's finished before starting a different chant. IMO the Mariners / Yellow army chant does work well and hopefully will expand into 15 and 17 as the season progresses along with bays 2 and 4 on Sunday arvo!
