Any idea what the options are for media coverage for the Mariners?
Does Gosford have a local paper? I suspect relying on the Newcastle Rugby League Herald for coverage of the Central Coast is a forelorn hope. Ditto NBN TV(No Breakers News).
What about radio?

The leading local paper is the Central Coast Express Advocate, which is a Murdoch owned News Ltd regional title, which also happens to be the naming sponsor for the Stadium now, too. It is the "Express Advocate Stadium". Which is a good sign.
It is also good that it has an obvious vested interest with Murdoch owning 25% of Australian Foxtel.
They have a Wednesday and Friday large distribution issue, with a circ. of around 120,000.
They have over the 2 years I have been here afforded local soccer and the Coasties a respectful level of space, and over the last few weeks have been reporting the Mariners solidly, with the wednesday just gone and last friday occupying the back covers.
In terms of radio, there are 3 main stations;
2GO, which is like Sydney's 2WS, or WS FM, Sea FM which is like Sydney's Today FM, and a recently launched station called Star FM, which is like Sydney's TrippleM.
2GO and Sea FM are both a part of the RG Capital Network.
I would expect, hope, the Mariners get sponsorship or backing from the two RG stations.
It works, too.
Recently the Sydney Bears of the National Ice Hockey League (I didn't know there was one either) played some hoome matches out of the new Erina Ice World facility, as a prelude to possibly launching a side up here.
They spent a bit of dough with 2GO and SeaFM to plug the matches, as well as local papers, and all the games were packed, or almost full. About 1,000 people.
This is indicative of how keen people up here are to watch top level sport.

Don't forget the two other papers - Central Coast Extra in the Daily Telegraph and the Sun Weekly.
The Daily Telegraph's senior sports writer is Greg Danvers and has done alot to cover football on the Coast.
Despite your misgivings Mr Celery he will be a great ally.
The Sun Weekly comes out once a week and has one page of sport.
As for the Express Advocate their coverage of football is shithouse and their papaer is totally league biased.
The editor is Ray Maher, a long time rugby league supporter and a director of central Coast Leagues Club.
His brother is Laurie Maher, the president of CC Leagues Club for the past 50 years! Laurie Maher is also a councillor and one of the major reason why the Gosford City Centre hasn't developed to its true potential.

The Sun Weekly comes out once a week and has one page of sport. As for the Express Advocate their coverage of football is nutshouse and their papaer is totally league biased. Laurie Maher is also a councillor and one of the major reason why the Gosford City Centre hasn't developed to its true potential. Well there is another in the Maher clan too, because the Wednesday edition I have in my hand has a back page story on Marc Falzone and the Mariners, written by a Steven Maher. Sounds pretty incestuous. But as usual, Rugby league bias is nothing new in NSW media. I don't doubt you've seen more of it than I, but I have noticed a fair amount of coverage afforded soccer in the Advocate. As for the Sun Weekly, it doesn't appear to be delivered to my joint anymore. Is it still delivered and circulated free?

How bizarre:
Laurie Maher is standing outside my office window now.
Maybe his ears were burning.
What a surreal experience!

Lookout Mick you may be bugged, we have also forgotten local community stations, 2CCC & 94.1 hits & Country both unlikley sources of sponsorship $ but both have provided live coverage of local sport usually RL but that can change......
