I certainly won't cheer an opposition player, the only time I would do that would be if it were someone who gave a lot of time to the club and dearly loved the Mariners, Mori doesn't fit into the category!
Yes he scored some important goals for us and got our season back on track and for that everyone is grateful, but he was still asked to wait by the Mariners for them to sort out the situation he was in but he couldn't be bothered!

but he was still asked to wait by the Mariners for them to sort out the situation he was in but he couldn't be bothered! exactly. he didn't want to stay at the club. IF he did ask lawrie to de-list someone, then talk is cheap. he had signed with qld on the same day. if he did want to stay, he would have waited, but he didn't. i dont think he hated the mariners or anything, just that he would prefer the deal from qld.

Bear in mind, though, the guy is coming towards the end of his career. It's not like he's in a position to hang on and see where his future lies. This is possibly his last season, and he has every right to make the most of it and the most OUT OF it as soon as.
Of course the guy never claimed to "love" the Mariners. He's not from the area, and spent the majority of his career in other parts of the country.
What he DID do, though, was score goals that turned our season round, when no-one else was able to do it. In 8 games, he made the kind of contribution that a lot of guys would take a whole season or more to make.
Like I say, it's not unreasonable to say he'll get a bit of piss taking (worries me how many GUYS have noticed the size of his arse!!!) but the bitterness of some people on this thread about him leaving seems ridiculous.

.....And its for that reason, thesandman, that I dont like the bloke, at all. And its that reason that i consider it HIS fault he left the mariners, NOT the ffa's fault.
And on your other point, 25 people on an internet forum dont speak for every person who is a marinator. You have no right at all to say the marinators do not hate him for leaving the club, as YOU DO NOT speak for the marinators.

You make it sound like QLD roar said to him "you need to sign for us now, or not at all. Make the decision, cos if you wait even 1 day to see if you can stay with the mariners, we will sihn someone else". The god damb honest and decent thing to do would have been to at least see if something could be sorted out, and THEN sign for someone else. Worst thing that could have happened for him then is that he would have missed 1 game for QLD and signed on with them the week after.

We had no right to him, and he had no reason to be loyal to us at his own expense. You say it was dishonest and indecent of him to sign for another club...why? Why should he put himself out to benefit us? Mori did what was best for Mori. He was never our player, and another team offered him a better deal when it looked like we wouldn't be able to put anything together. We got all these bonus goals in the process, what is there to complain about? Like I said when he left, if we really wanted Mori or some other class striker, we would have signed one at the start of the season. Maybe it's just West Ham fans who have a particular gripe over ex-players...you have enough of them. Although in that case, where are the Leeds fans?

I think that everyone is also forgetting the fact that everyone was quite well aware that he only had 4 games with us on the last short term contract. Therefore, 4 weeks in order to find a possible solution.
Solution was not found, other than de-lisiting an "original" player, and that was NEVER going to happen.
If any one of us worked for an organisation for a contracted amount of time and knew that time was almost up and there was no possiblity of renewing the contract with that organisation, of course your going to start looking for a new job, before the old one ends.
As Brett said, Mori looked after Mori. We did what we could, but it wasn't mean't to be. End of story.

Personally I would like to thank Mori for giving it his all while we had him, and now our players just have to stop him from scoring against us.
Look at it this way: lets say hes a normal working bloke with a casual job at Coles who may or may not find something more permanent for him... along comes Woolworths with a permanent job offer starting now... If you don't take the permanent job offer your an f---ing idiot.
Family comes first not loyalty to a club you have played a couple of games for.

If you don't take the permanent job offer your an f---ing idiot. Fair enough, but if the Coles job asked you if you wouldnt mind holding off on signing for Woolies for a few day because they would like to sort something out and keep you because your a fantastic worker, im saying the HONEST and DECENT thing to do is to hold off for a few days. Mori didnt do that, quite obviously, and for that, I think he is a wanker. Sorry, thats my opinion. As I stated in this thread previously, if Danny was to up and leave the mariners for say sydney next year, would every mariners fan cheer him and congratulate him on the great job he did here??? Regardless of what people say on here what they would do, most people, I believe, would be dissapointed with him for leaving, and feel somewhat betrayed by him, even though of course he is infact just looking after himself, which is fair enough.

It's totally different because Danny is OUR player. We have spent time and resources training him and given him the opportunity to play in the A-League.
As supporters, we've invested emotions in watching him develop and make mistakes and learn from mistakes and improve and celebrate with us and tell us the score.
He is a part of the future plans of this club and if you asked people who you thought might be our best player NEXT season, Danny's name might come up. All of the above (besides telling us the score) could be said of all our good players.
With Mori, he was never our player. He wasn't part of our original plans for this season and he wasn't part of our future plans. He wasn't here long enough to develop that emotional connection.
Also, if Coles gave me a contract for four weeks at a time, and Woolies guaranteed a secure future til the end of the financial year, I would ask myself, 'what do I owe Coles anyway?'
We always left ourselves open for him to leave by not wrapping him up when we had the chance. After he succeeded in his first 4 game stint we could have delisted someone and signed Mori up. Lawrie opted rather to dangle another 4 weeks in front of him with no guarantee of any ahead of that. It could be said that the fact Mori had to constantly prove himself here was why he played so well, but in the comfort of a full season and guaranteed selection at Roar is why he hasn't scored for them. Whether that's true or not, Lawrie had enough chance had we desperately wanted him, and it's not up to Mori to make it any easier for us.
I've said all I can say really and you are entitled to have your opinion of course mate, so feel free to think what you want!
I ask you though just for the sake of an interest debate, what if New Zealand Knights said to Trotty "we'll guarantee you first team football if you sign for us"? What if Lawrie said "we'd rather keep you here".
It's the same as Mori in that leaving would suit the player better. Would you boo Trotty then? Or is your only problem that Mori was our best player at the time?

Its totally different for trotty. He has not played 1 minute for the mariners. I would never begrudge any player leaving any team if it meant they would get guaranteed game time.
HOWEVER, if trotty was a starter every single week for the mariners, and playing well, and he up and left, yes, I would think he was a prick to. Am I backwards in thinking this way???

at the end of the day I don't wanna cheer for him as I don't wanna encourage him to score! I'd rather try and put him off his game! I can see Bears point and Tigers, Mori did what he wanted to do and that's that!

I'm with Deej, thats why I reckon the 'we love you barge arse' is a good chant, we sung it when he was with us (affectionately) butI don't think he liked it, so it may just 'put him off his game'?

I'll just be happy if we sing the 'Mori, change your shirt!' chant - it works even if, by chance, he scores. Else 'Mori only scores for the Mariners' would work as both a cheer and an insult
