Football Federation Australia (FFA) appointed Disciplinary Arbitrator, Tony O'Reilly, today determined that no additional penalty would be given to Michael (Mile) Jedinak in relation an incident in the 70th minute of Saturday’s Round 17 Hyundai A-League match between Central Coast Mariners and Queensland Roar at Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium.
The disciplinary hearing heard that Jedinak immediately showed contrition for his actions and had also attempted to pull out of the tackle, and as such the mandatory one-match suspension and a stern reprimand were deemed to be sufficient sanction.
Jedinak will now serve the mandatory one match suspension for being issued a red-card for the round 18 Hyundai A-League match against the Melbourne Victory on Sunday 31st December and will be available for selection for the Central Coast Mariners against the Newcastle Jets in Round 19 at Energy Australia Stadium on Friday 5th January 2007.

In all fairness I still think he is lucky. It good have been longer.. But what a great Christmas present for him and us. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very happy Mile wil be back so soon.

Jedi used the force Jedi Jedi used the force.
A little bit lucky, but I think this shows abiding the referee's decision promptly does have it's advantages

I don't think it's lucky. It was a poorly executed and timed tackle, but it wasn't malicious, it was never going to hurt anybody, and he did try to pull out. The red card should have been end of story.

offtheball and gull, im going to make a big call here.
If you honestly think that Leijer's tackle was as bad as Jedi's, then I put it to you that you do not know very much about the game off football at all. Yes, Jedi did try and pull out of his tackle, Leijer did not. But the fact remains that a lunging 2 foot studs up tackle with ALWAYS be worse than ANY tackle from behind.
It would even be worse than a 2 foot lunging studs up tackle FROM behind, as there is less intent to hurt someone from behind.
Try to correct me if you think im wrong.

Bear, how is there less intent to hurt someone from behind? In both cases there may not even be intent to hurt, but that is irrelevant in the laws of the game (as opposed to judiciary hearings)

Bear is right - a 2 footed lunge from the front has much more chance of lasting and serious damage

that is true. how many times have you seen a dude break his leg from a tackle from behind. I cant recall any. Every one ive seen has been some sort of huge lunge from in front of the player (petkovic, collymore, cisse - to the side, but more in front than behind)

Thats my point kevrenor, as above. There is more intent from front than behind as no-one would be stupid enough to try it from behind, as there is less chance to hurt someone that way. Trust me on this one, playing dirty is all I have on the football field

I hear ya - 50:50 ball, hit the top of the ball and you can use your momentum to go over the top and get him just under the knee - nasty but it will work :-)
