If anyone is on here saying Griffiths is a top bloke off the pitch they need to remember 1 thing.
Sport doesnt build character, it reveals it.
Newcastle sports officials have a long history of blinkered thinking about their "stars" dont they?? Griffiths is a blight on the game and their club.
I will boo Muscat (and do) but I would love to see him in Yellow. If they bought Griffiths?? I would seriously consider not going (same for Reddy)

Not sure if this has been mentioned as I haven't had time to read all the pages on this posting but a scenario set up now could be that if a player is about to be red carded (eg defender bringing down the last man) that player could walk up to the referee before he brings the card out, belt the referee in the mouth. Be shown the red card and sent from the field. Has the matter been dealt with?

A red card is basically assumed as being a "to be continued" type of approach to the punishment, as in, further action can be taken as that is the maximum possible punishment the player could of received at that point in time and therefore, leaves room for further punishment. However, since a yellow card is not the maximum punishment the player could of received, it is therefore considered dealt with as the referee deemed it a fair punishment. Its ridiculous in the Joel Griffiths considering the Referee didnt see the incident and therefore should be excluded from the FIFA rules about post-match discipline, however, Griffiths will never be thought of the same, by anyone, he can basically kiss his Socceroos career goodbye, any 50-50 free kicks that could go his way, and any contracts with clubs that have a sense of decency, obviously this leaves the Jets to keep him until he retires. By the way, i would just like to say that if the Jets management doesnt take action against its own player for such an act, it really reflects on them badly and really exposes them for what they really are, how can the players be expected to show composure and discipline when their own board wont even punish them for it and would rather cop bucket loads of bad press and publicity than man up to the situation and take responsibility, even if it means becoming the shite team they are without the tantrum throwing little bitch

hilly - whatever action occurs after the initial red card offence is dealt with via referee reports. Technically the referee cannot take action on a '2nd red card offence' - you can't do more than send a player off once!

AS if you wouldn't have him Why would we want a cheating diving c**t who couldn't even make the Leeds reserve team? He's a prick, whilst Lawrie is here we'll never sign him and that's the way I like it!

Fined Griffiths says sorry - The World Game
Newcastle striker Joel Griffiths has apologised for lashing out at a linesman during the Jets' A-League draw with Central Coast, claiming he didn't intend to hit him.
Griffiths was fined two weeks' wages by the Jets and formally apologised over the act of dissent in Sunday's match in Gosford, where he was shown a yellow card after striking the groin of assistant Alex Glasgow.
"I am sorry for my actions in the incident involving the linesman in the match against the Central Coast on the weekend," Griffiths said in a statement.
"I wish to say here now, there was never any intention to strike the linesman intentionally."
"However I do realise that many young people were watching the game and that it may have given the wrong impression to young kids."
"In actual fact, I went to the officials room straight after the match to offer my sincere apologies to the linesman, who accepted my apologies."
"I have met with the club in relation to this issue and understand the severity of my actions."
"The club has imposed a penalty on me and I have no argument with that."
"I play with passion and I play with vigour and perhaps it overflowed too much on this occasion."
Griffiths requested his two-week fine, one week of which is suspended, be donated to the Childrens Ward of the John Hunter Hospital.
Jets chief executive John Tsatsimas said: "Although the incident involving Joel was dealt with directly on the field, and no further action was taken, the club has held lengthy discussions this week with Joel and (coach) Gary van Egmond regarding that incident."
"It is very important that we uphold the integrity of the club and the game to ensure the correct standard of behaviour on the field."
Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley confirmed no further action could be taken against Griffiths, despite an outcry the striker should have received a red card and served a suspension.
Buckley told Sydney radio station 2KY that soccer's world governing body FIFA would not allow additional charges against a player if the referee had taken action at the time of the incident.
"That's the way the game is governed on a worldwide basis but I would caution all players when they show dissent, and in particular dissent towards a referee, that they be very careful with their actions," Buckley said.

Getting fined 2 weeks wages is a token effort - if they were serious, they'd suspend him.
Still, better than nothing I suppose - and at least they have set a precedent in the league for some self-discipline.
