NEWCASTLE FAMILY!
It's a good point though, in two previous attempts they havent brought any fans down so now that they have a real excuse why should we expect any?

The council, possibly the FFA and the Mariners should come together and have a massive fireworks display at the Gosford waterfront after the game. Build this match into a yearly event at Gosford and publicise it as a FAMILY night. The band is also a great idea. I'd love to see the screaming jets belt out tunes in the middle of the ground for an hour or so !

It is an issue that needs to be addressed. I think the team winning at home will help to bring the crowds in.
There are some interesting suggestions in this thread though. The half price tickets by wearing the current team strip is an excellent idea. So to is free entry for current junior players under 16. As it has been said, the parents will need to come along to the games and pay their own way.
Free tickets giveaways will certainly bring people in however i believe it needs to be done in a way that doesn't compromise current ticket sales.
How might this occur? I know that the mariners do training seasons at various schools around the central coast at the moment. I have wondered about how it would go if free family passes (four tickets) where given to every student at the school when these training seasons are run. Most schools have probably about 750 students on average i would say. If 500 of these kids got their familys along to the game it would increase the numbers by 2000 per game.
I would think that ticket give aways on this basis would probably have a minimal affect on the current ticket sales which is what the club would want. Secondly, because each training session is run at a different school, the tickets would be given to a new select group of people each game.
If you introduce 500 new familys to a home game each week through free tickets, you may retain 150 of these familys for the next home game. The difference being they are now paying customers.
Lets face it, the tickets given away arent being sold anyway so what is there to lose?
I would propose that a new thread be set up in this forum which brainstorms ideas for bringing the crowds in (minus all the blah).
What do you guys think?

If the NYE game is promoted as a family night it will be a winner. I spoke to my neighbour over the road this morning about what he was doing on nye with the kids. He had no idea so i suggested he go to the mariners game. Hes never been to a mariners game and thought it would be a good idea. Starts at 6.00pm and will be over by 8.30. Plenty of time to do other stuff throughout the evening.
A perfect night our for those of us with young familys. Add fire works to the mix and it will be a winner.

jollyroger: About your post concerning free tix. See Bench and Boardroom section and the thread about 'crowds'. There's an answer there from the club as late as 1 December. They won't do it for junior players.

im not sure if your club does it, but the newcastle jets let U12s in for free with paying adults and it has worked a treat. crowd attendances are on the up and it wont be long before we beat the old record of 18000 (old nsl team)

I have played rugby league for 11yrs and i am now a season ticket holder for the mariners and the price was not a concern even though as a rugby league player i recieved a free pass. I do not think the price is the problem its advertising. Little Pollock
