Smith dumps GlavasThere's your young striker! Sign him now! He scored all 4 goals to annihilate the otherwise seemingly unbeatable Blacktown City Demons (can't argue with 3 trophies out of 4) in the NSWPL GF. If that's not some finishing ability, I don't know what is... Add to that an experienced stager to show him the ropes, and we're cooking.

I mentioned weeks ago to fish that Glavas would be good for us. God I would be happy if he came here.

I mentioned weeks ago to fish that Glavas would be good for us. God I would be happy if he came here. and did anyone mention cheap? ex-state league, just released after only 9 appearances and 400 odd minutes where his scoring rate wasn't far off kwasnik's (kwas's penalties included) in a shit team that otherwise couldn't hit the side of a barn *from the inside*?

GOALKEEPER NEEDED!!
Danny is bloody brilliant, but if he's going to be away quite a bit next season we need a quality keeper. I watched Matt Trott the other night and I wasn't too convinced. There was a young guy who played in goals for QLD against Melbourne in Round 20, (I think on loan from Perth). He'd be interesting to look into (don't know if on contract on perth).
Also, Mori is a must. He knows the team, the ethic, the players and the facilities. Even if age is against him, he might want to sign on for a year, just for one more chance.

perth have four handy goalkeepers - petkovich, tomich, vrteski and velaphi - i wouldn't mind any one of them as a very capable backup that would certainly push danny for the spot and ensure he doesn't get too complacent. they can't hold onto them all...

Petkovic wouldn't play for the Mariners, we'll be lucky if we ever seem him at Gosford again.

buy glavas now!!!! from the HAL website: Roar release defenders Wednesday, 24 January, 2007 - 2:46PM Sportal
Chad GibsonQueensland Roar will not be offering defensive duo Chad Gibson and Remo Buess new contracts for next season and have allowed the pair to commence negotiations with rival clubs.
The decision leaves comprehensive gaps in the club's leadership stakes as Gibson was the club captain and Buess one of the co-vice captains.
The duo was prolific in both the development of the club and the A-League, and were thanked by Roar CEO Lawrence Oudendyk for their contribution to the club.
"Chad and Remo are both players who have made a significant contribution to developing our club and we thank them for what they have done here, as well as wishing them well for the future," Oudendyk said, in a statement released by the club.
"Remo was the first Swiss import to the Hyundai A-League and Chad can take great satisfaction in the knowledge that he has been instrumental in promoting both Queensland Roar and the Hyundai A-League as a whole.
"He has been the face of the Football Federation Australia (FFA) marketing campaign, and like Remo, has been an outstanding ambassador for our club and our game.
"We are entering a phase in our club's development were we must look at altering the make-up of our squad to ensure a more competitive future and unfortunately releasing existing players is part of that process."

Let's have a look here.
1 Danny 2 New left back with pace 3 OGrady 4 Jedinak 5 Porter 6 Gumps 7 Hutch 8 Macca 9 Nik 10 Tommy 11 Forward aged 28-32 with a physical presence 12 Matt Simon 13 Viddie 14 New right back with pace 15 Clark 16 Boogs 17 Osman 18 Wilko 19 Kwas 20 Experienced goalkeeper 21 Damien Brown 22 Ollie Bozanic or other youth international 23 Young player in the Tommy P position
Trott on standby as short term cover should either keeper be unavailable.
#23 to be kept open if an ideal player can't be found. Save it for the right opportunity...re: Mori this season for Queensland.
Even though 23 players is few compared to overseas leagues, it is quite massive without a reserve team.
My reason for the changes are as follows - No Sully. He isn't a right back, despite some good tackles he is too small and often got monstered for the other 89 minutes of the game. His passing and crossing don't really let him force his way into what is still maybe the best midfield going around. Getting on in age.
Jedi for Spenny. Better in almost every aspect of defensive midfieldship and much younger.
Strong, mature forward. The missing link. This season would have been a success had we had one.
A specialist fullback for each side with pace, one with experience because it's a young team. We tried to plug these holes but we need much better team balance. The ability to inject something into the team with pacy, unexpected runs late in games. Crossing ability ideal for the big front men.
Experienced goalkeeper because regardless of how much Danny is here, it would be better to have some competitition for him.
Keep Browny for continuity and because we lack true wide men. Only sign for one year.
Ollie or another young gun because it's what the A-League is for. Bringing the youth through. Position unimportant.
Danny #14 Wilko Viddie #2 - - -Gumps Jedi Ossie - Tommy - Hutch - - - - - - #11
Danny - Wilko OGrady Viddie Ossie - - Jedi - - - - #2 - - - Gumps Tommy - - - - #11 - - Mrdja

Kwasnik was the state league's most prolific striker once upon a time. You never know how goalscoring will transfer long term. I'd sign him instead of Simon in my above squad but not as the elusive #11.

Petkovic wouldn't play for the Mariners, we'll be lucky if we ever seem him at Gosford again. agreed, though i was mostly referring to the other three. i imagine they would want to keep tomich myself, he certainly has done nothing wrong. a few clubs will be sniffing around the other two though i'm sure.

That Velaphi looks likely, very exciting prospect not overawed at all when he debuted

Na I ain't convinced on Glavas - he didn't set the league alight in season 2, and I don't think he's the striker we are needing. Nik would always get a spot above him and I think we need someone who will push Mrdja for a starting spot. Competition is healthy ;D

Or else i will look out of place with my "sully" "2" jersey anyone be interested in gibson or buess? maybe if ogrady moves on gibson or buess are not worthy enough to lick o'grady's boots lawrie has stated that the players he brings in will have to better or equal to the current squad and people on here are suggesting that we get qld's hand-me-downs today's telegraph has stated that the mariners are releasing three players and that porter, simon, trott and boogaard will go back to the lightning and play for a contract next season the telegraph also said we are negotiating with three strikers in the a-league, two of which are involved in finals series my guess: - mori - bridge - petrovski

what happened with holland. he is in the u18 aussie squad. and also i would look at redmayne before trotty. redmayne - u18 aussie squad - nswis goalkeeper. would have a lot better cred and more to add as a reserve keeper and also from gosford.
