My guess is McMaster will go to Newcastle to replace Brown who wants to join Wellington. I think McMaster is a decent player, nice first touch but chronically short on pace, Jedinak is a good replacement for him

McMaster was good in patches, but not indispensable in the same way that a fit Gumprecht or Wilko currently are. That said, the memory of Muscat getting sent off in that game down in Melbourne still brings tears of joy to my face.
As for Stewie, I think he brought a lot of things to the Mariners play, that will only start to be noticed once he's gone. He was one of the few in the team who could cross a ball properly (ironically, given the general forum opinion of him I always thought Vuko was one of the others!), and as well as posing an aerial threat, he seemed to me to be one of the quicker thinkers in our team...great awareness of who was around him and where...very rarely misplaced passes. I will miss our little "guess-how-many-times-SP-will-stray-offside" games, though.....good luck to you, lad!

Mucat must be one of the most hated men in the league...
Stewie was a thinker...and quite vocal, His loss is the only real negative Player loss we have had so far (except Mori, if that counts). I havent really see us recruit to fill that position yet? Your right Mustapha... probably wont miss him till that ball is pushed down the left hand side...

Now Stewie is obviously NOT going to be on the field for the Mariners this year, the big question is: "Who is going to translate the shouted instructions in broad Scottish brogue from Lawrie and Fergie, for the Mariners players on the field?" Will we see scribbled notes passed out to the wingers from the bench so the players know exactly what the coach wants?

Notes might be the only way to go As a Petrie fan a tiny tiny peace of me wants them to regret letting him go but the mariners fan in me hopes they get a #12 to fill his shoes.

I wont miss McMaster he was a let down really. I have two very different memories of his time in a yellow shirt. One good.....him giving it to Muscat whenever we played Melb. One bad....him playing the worse game anyone has ever put in for the Mariners against Adelaide in the last game of the season.
Petrie will be a loss but he was getting too old. I hope the club keeps him because you could clearly see he had a better Football brain than alot of his team-mates.
I would play Hutcho in that left wing position.

I don't think you guys should feel you will miss anything with McMaster. Slow moving and at times seemed to lack concentration and motivation.
i think with the changes that have been made you've got a nice looking squad.

Kevin Sheedy coach of Essendon AFL once screamed a message down the phone to the trainer to be given to Paul Salmon on the field. The trainer got to Salmon and said "the boss is going ballistic about you but I couldnt understand a word he said, just do something different will ya"

Six players left to sign including two under 20's.
Possibles look to be
Andrew Redmayne-----Keeper + U/20 Dean Heffernan-----If not in Europe Nigel Boogard Steve Eagleton James Holland--------U/20
For the last I would love to see a marquee striker, assuming we can fit Tony under the cap. Someone that would add a few bums on seats. I like the idea of Robbie Fowler, but I suspect that would need both Singo and his mate Gerry to throw in a heap of money.
Robbie would draw many Liverpool supporters from Sydney and would broaden our appeal out of the region to a much larger market.

Not a rumour about Fowler - a suggestion. The idea could be sold to Singo and Gerry Harvey - if they funded it - by giving them, especially Gerry Harvey, the opportunity for exposure through Asia, if we qualify and do well in the ACL. Fowler would be great for promotions in Asia.

Fowler would be great for promotions in Asia. the question would inevitably be 'promoting what?' we'd need a sponsor who would get increased exposure and sales that they could point to and go 'that's why i put money into the mariners'. you need to deliver value, not just a feel-good factor. someone really needs to make a buck, sell more cars/dvds/apartments/holidays/healthcare/iron ore/pop rivets /whatever else to make it work, and be sustainable from a business point of view.
