these things would be more possible if we qualify for asia if we were to qualify for asia we would have the benefit of 2 champions league campaigns by australian teams before ours, i think it will take probably 3 years for business to wake up and see that sponsoring an a-league team especially through asia is something no other code can offer

Not a rumour about Fowler - a suggestion. The idea could be sold to Singo and Gerry Harvey - if they funded it - by giving them, especially Gerry Harvey, the opportunity for exposure through Asia, if we qualify and do well in the ACL. Fowler would be great for promotions in Asia. the question would inevitably be 'promoting what?' someone really needs to make a buck, sell more cars/dvds/apartments/holidays/healthcare/iron ore/pop rivets /whatever else to make it work, and be sustainable from a business point of view. My idea, not that I spelyt it out, would be that if we qualify for Asia with a household name that it would provide a platform for advertising for an expansion of Harvey Norman stores into Asia.

Pointless discussion. We have our marquee player for this season.

Pointless discussion. We have our marquee player for this season. Yep, Vidmar is contracted for this season. No doubt that distinction is mentioned in his contract and he'd have every right to get quite upset with the club if they tried to fit him under the salary cap. But having bought two reasonably profiled players in the off season (Owens and Petrovski) I doubt there'd be enough room even IF we could accommodate Vidmar.

Petrie says that he doesn't want to retire, and may look for a club in asia or scotland. Macmaster is somewhere in england. Got this from express advocate.

sorry if this has been mentioned but berger has signed with melbourne. fergie was looking at him for the last year and a half but lawrie decided against. staff at marconi are suprised the mariners didn't sign him. robinson seems to be getting a bit of a following after his 2 goals in marconi's 5-0 win. the NSW clubs have taken an 'interest' into him, but i got the impression nothing really concrete yet.

I didn't know he signed with Melbourne, thanks for that.....Holland, Redmayne and Smitta will more than likely be our U20's for next year........perhaps Lawrie fancies giving Boogs another year? He's been a class above with the Lightning?

Lawrie would not want another U/20 pulling splinters out of their arse sitting on the side lines {BERGER). His record over 2 seasons playing U/20 players doesnt really inspire youth to come to the Mariners. If he had signed we would have 4 U/20 players recieving very little game time, if at all.

good news in the express today - we're getting a new training ground with recycled water so it should be softer than mingara! and we're also looking to add redmayne and holland to the squad. Mariners celebrate Jubilee
15May07
THEY had to call for the hot water to be switched on but otherwise the Mariners made a smooth transition to their new training ground at Jubilee Oval, Long Jetty, on Monday.
Heavy usage of the Mingara Recreation Club sporting field had made that ground unsuitable for Mariners training and the club jumped at the chance to make a home at the renovated Jubilee Oval.
The venue had been suggested by Mariners board member and Wyong Mayor Bob Graham when the oval was a work in progress almost two years ago.
Jubilee Oval was once the home ground of The Entrance United Soccer Club but over the past couple of decades it has seen little use.
Drawing on funds from developers contributions Wyong Council has spent millions of dollars on the oval. New turf, new fencing and a new amenities block have given the ground a new look.
``It's a state of the art facility and the Mariners are the first to use it,'' Mr Graham said.
``We're glad to keep the Mariners in Wyong shire because they were using Central Coast Grammar School at Erina.
``We also hope the Central Coast Lightning will play a few games here.''
Mariners head coach Lawrie McKinna said Jubilee Oval would become the team's training headquarters, coupled with Bluetongue Stadium during the A-League season.
``We'll continue to use Mingara for the gym and the pool but we have a full field here as well as extra space for small-sided games so it is perfect for us,'' McKinna said.
``We met with Wyong Council when the ground was still in the planning stages. When it was getting close to completion we put in a request for the ground.
``Thankfully for us it was accepted and here we are on our first training day back and we're the first ones on it.''
McKinna said the surface was good and he expected it to remain that way during drought conditions due to the availability of recycled water.
``A lot of other teams have training facilities as good as they play on and this takes us to another level,'' McKinna said.
The new Central Coast Academy squads will also train on the field on Monday nights.
No other clubs will use the ground until the 2007-08 cricket season begins.
McKinna has high hopes for junior stars
Meanwhile, Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said the club hoped to add Central Coast juniors James Holland and Andrew Redmayne to the club's A-League squad for the 2007-08 season. The pair are part of the Australian Institute of Sport squad playing in the Victorian premier league but McKinna hopes they will be available to join his squad once their commitments in that competition are completed later in the year.
All A-League squads are required to have three under-20 years players in the squad and McKinna is holding two places open for midfielder Holland and goalkeeper Redmayne.

``We're glad to keep the Mariners in Wyong shire because they were using Central Coast Grammar School at Erina." Yeah, I read this last night. Funny though, I thought they were the Central Coast [/u]Mariners, not the Wyong Shire Mariners.

well spotted DJ about redmayne and holland. holland sounds like an exciting player not really - they have been training with the Mariners for a year, plus there's not a lot of other options around at the moment, especially since Berger signed with MVFC. Personally I've only seen Holland play a couple of times but he looked very handy and confident when they played Lightning recently.

Didn't know Mr Graham could change LGA boundries!
