CENTRAL COAST MARINERS FOOTBALL CLUB MEDIA RELEASE, MONDAY 19 FEBRUARY 2007
MARINERS RE-SIGN FOUR
The Central Coast Mariners’ preparations for their third Hyundai A-League campaign gathered further momentum today with the announcement that off-contract squad members Adam Kwasnik, Matthew Osman, Bradley Porter and Matthew Trott have been re-signed for the 2007/08 season.
The announcement compliments the recent re-signing of defensive lynchpin Alex Wilkinson and the acquisition of former Sydney FC striker Sasho Petrovski.
Although still some months away from the commencement of training ahead of the 2007/08 Hyundai A-League season, Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman is delighted to have secured the services of four of the Mariners’ most exciting emerging talents.
"In announcing the four players we have re-signed today, we have secured the services of some of our most genuine up and coming talents," said Gorman.
"In Kwasnik and Osman, we have extended the stays of two of our foundation squad members, who each have a lot to offer at this level and who each have contributed a great deal to the success of the Mariners, on and off the field, over the past two seasons.
"Porter and Trott are fine examples of our policy of looking local first – if players from the Central Coast region are good enough to play in the Hyundai A-League, we will select them, and it is with a great deal of pride that we are able to confirm that we will see two of our most exciting local products run out for their hometown team again in 2007/08."
Striker Kwasnik finished the 2006/07 Hyundai A-League season as the Central Coast’s top goal scorer, having netted seven times from 19 starts and two substitute appearances.
One of only two players to have taken the field for each of the Mariners’ competitive fixtures in 2006/07, Kwasnik finished the Mariners’ most recent campaign as the Central Coast’s second most prolific goal scorer of all time, having scored eleven times in all matches – three fewer than leading marksman Stewart Petrie.
Kwasnik is now just two appearances short of becoming the fourth Mariners player to register fifty competitive appearances since the club’s inception.
Utility Osman has been one of the Mariners’ most reliable performers over the past two seasons, having played a key role in each of the five tournaments the Central Coast have been involved in.
Osman has made 41 appearances in total, 13 of which have been from the bench, with an undoubted highlight being his match winning goal against the Newcastle Jets in the first leg of the 2005/06 Hyundai A-League Minor Semi Final at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
Fellow utility Porter, who is coincidentally celebrating his 20th birthday today, made nine appearances for the Mariners during the 2006/07 campaign, including two starts that helped the Mariners secure a berth in the 2006 Pre-Season Cup final.
Porter’s season was interrupted on occasion by international duty – with the Kanwal Warnervale junior making appearances against Thailand and the United Arab Emriates when playing for the Young Socceroos (Under 20’s) at the 2006 Asian Youth Championships in India.
Porter also wore the green and gold on four occasions in the lead up to the bi-annual meet of Asia’s best young footballers – making appearances against Argentina, Chile, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Goalkeeper Trott finished the 2006/07 Hyundai A-League season with a starting appearance to boast, having served the Mariners primarily as an understudy to Danny Vukovic for much of his career in yellow and navy thus far.
Trott’s Hyundai A-League debut against Adelaide United in the final round of the season doubled his tally of appearances for his hometown club – with Trott having made his first official start some seven months earlier when coming on for the aforementioned Vukovic at Melbourne’s Olympic Park in the round three of the Mariners’ 2006 Pre-Season Cup campaign.
"Today’s announcement is another step in the process of making sure we leave no stone unturned in assembling the best possible squad for our 2007/08 Hyundai A-League campaign," said Gorman.
"We will be announcing further player retentions and recruitments in the foreseeable future, with a clear vision of having a settled and fit squad that will hit the ground running once we commence our pre-season program."
