He would undoubtedly be the best LB in the comp now that Checkers is gone - but sadly that's more an indictment on the quality of fullbacks in the HAL more than anything else.
Having said that at his age is coming back closing the door on Europe all together? Big big decision this one - no wonder he's scampering about trying to get a new deal in Europe.

Having said that at his age is coming back closing the door on Europe all together? Big big decision this one - no wonder he's scampering about trying to get a new deal in Europe. Exactly Jaza. Heff is 3/4 of the way there, all he needs is a club over in Europe, preferably Germany where he's based at the moment, to offer him a contract. That maybe easier said than done, but at least the Mariners haven't stood in his way to this point, and are being understanding to his predicament. But I believe his contract with the Mariners finishes shortly, and Heff must already realise that if he can't get a contract over there, he may have to return home. And if he does return home, he may find that the Mariners and other clubs have filled their rosters and not in a position to talk to him either. And then what can he do? Play for Lightning and hope for a short term contract with the Mariners - or play in a Sydney club, and hope for a short term for Sydney FC or try again next A-League season for a contract? Too many options and not enough solutions. I think Heff is going to have to set a date in his mind and stick to it. IF he doesn't get anything positive from a Euro club by that date get straight onto the phone to Lawrie and see what can be organised or get an agent in Australia to do same around the HAL clubs and see what's available.

heff's a half a chance to come home according to 442: Half Chance Of Heff Return 1 Comment Email Print Copyright Getty Images RELATED COVERAGE Butcher's Bitter Blast At Sydney Glory Grab Teen Keeper Tando Reds Romp Home Matchwinner Robinson Axed In Victory Clearout Herbert Hot For Melbourne Model Aidan Ormond Mar 22 2007 01:43 Get more on: mariners | aleague | heffernan | mckinna Goalscoring defender Dean Heffernan is a “50-50” chance of returning to the Mariners for season three of the A-League, says Central Coast supremo Lawrie McKinna. The attacking left back is on loan at German club Nuremberg from Central Coast and the Bundesliga club has the option of signing him to a longer contract. However, given he’s not been able to break into the first team squad, a return seems likely and McKinna would be grateful for the added goalscoring potential for his goal-shy squad. “We’ll know by March 31 what the club wants to do with Heff. It’s 50-50,” McKinna told www.au.fourfourtwo.com. “He’s still with Nuremberg but we’d certainly welcome him back if they said he could go. Heff did a fantastic job with us in season one of the A-League.” Nevertheless, McKinna is satisfied he’s plugged the goalscoring gaps with his latest recruits Sasho Petrovski and Greg Owens. And he’s treating perennially crocked striker Nick Mrjda in a similar vein. “Nicky Mrjda is like a new signing for us when you consider all the time out he’s been injured. And he is 100% over the injury… If you add Heffernan to our squad, we should be able to take our chances this season, which obviously wasn’t something we did last season.” McKinna – who will begin a rigorous pre-season from May 14 - also confirmed two talented teens were on his shopping list for A-League version 3. Big AIS keeper Andrew Redmayne and NSW premier league midfielder Evan Berger are the two being considered. Both players have also been named in FourFourTwo magazine’s “Ten Best Players Outside The A-League” feature which hits shelves in early April. In other news, the Mariners have been invited to the Hong Kong sevens tournament in late May. And today the club announced Rebel Sport has renewed its sponsorship arrangement with the club for the forthcoming season. anyone else heard about the sevens tournament??

Didnt we play a tournament over there before V1?? Yes, that was the club's reward for coming runner up in the Club World Championship qualifiers that we lost to Sydney FC. Sydney FC went on to play against other Oceania clubs and then became Oceania's rep in the CWC. The Hong Kong Sevens was where Leo Carle lost some important docs (like a Passport or something) and incurred the wrath of Lawrie for being such a goose.

I believe it was a passport and $25 000!
I think it was a win over Man U and a draw against Celtic, Fergie was happy, lost in extra time against PSV. Not 100% though.
