Sasho's Joy At Sydney Showdown Jon Ritson 4-4-2 Jul 25 2007 13:10
Sydney FC old boy Sasho Petrovski is gunning for his former employers and hopes to fire Central Coast Mariners ever closer to Pre-Season Cup glory. Having made the switch at the end of the last A-League campaign, the striker has settled in well under Lawrie McKinna and confidence is high in the camp.
And taking down Sydney this weekend should also ensure that he retains his spot at the top of the pre-season scoring stakes.
Petrovski, who netted 14 goals in two seasons for Sydney FC, would love to shoot down his old club.
He said: “It’ll be interesting to come up against them and I’ve been looking forward to it.
“Hopefully I will get selected and if I’m not rested, I’m definitely up for it.â€
Petrovski has banged in six goals since the competition was first contested and adding to that tally is very much in his thoughts.
His Pre-Season Cup haul beats that of fellow hot shots Danny Allsopp and Archie Thompson respectively with Mariners teammates Adam Kwasnik and Nik Mrdja boasting three apiece.
Should he be selected for the clash at Canberra Stadium, he will also become the first Mariner to play against a former club.
The occasion has added spice as anything less than victory for Sydney will dash its hopes of further progression in the competition.
The issue of bonus points makes the Cup picture somewhat more complex than the A-League but Culina’s men must look to win convincingly (by a margin of three goals) in order to make progress.
And Culina’s side will have to beat a team in good form.
Petrovski said: “We've worked very hard from day one when we all got together and the team is coming along pretty well, we're just trying to get into the winning mentality and get into the habit of trying to win every game.
"If we can do that, then it puts us in a healthy situation heading into the Hyundai A-League.â€
And as for his own form in front of goal, he said: “It's always nice to be up there and recognised as a top goal scorer, but I can see that things are a little bit different at the Mariners.
“There are a lot of players in this team that are capable of scoring goals. As long as we win and get the results that we need, that's the main thing.
"In saying that, it'd be nice to keep my record and statistics going in the right way."
Not that the goalscoring burden has been placed entirely on Petrovski’s shoulders. There is other firepower in the Mariners' camp.
Of fellow forward Nik Mrdja, he said: “Our partnership is going along really well.
"Nik's a strong boy and he likes to hold the ball up and use his strengths.
"We've just got to read each other a little bit more, know our strengths and the right things will happen for us.â€

They look strong. I am positive we can 'out A-League' any team in the comp, but I am very interested to see whether Branko will be able to employ his Asian Champions League style of play against a quick, physical A-League team.
Not that I'll be at this game to find out whether that's the case! Have fun travellers!

Sydney FC vs Central Coast Mariners Sunday 29 July 2007 Kick-Off 3:00pm AEST (2:30pm ACST, 1:00pm AWST) Canberra Stadium, Canberra Unavailable: Andrew Clark (Inguinal Ligament - 2 weeks), quote] What the hell is an INGUINAL LIGAMENT? ? ? ? ! ! ! ! SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GOOGLE IT AND LEARN ABOUT IT. Following is the explanation of Clarkey's ailment. I have read it several times and have come to the conclusion that it begs more questions than answers to the problem. So anyway for your edification (and your explanation to me later) the lowdown on Clarkeys Inguinal Ligament. The inguinal ligament is a band running from the pubic tubercle to the anterior superior iliac spine. Its anatomy is very important for operating on hernia patients.
It forms the base of the inguinal canal which is the place from where the inguinal hernia develops.
The inguinal ligament runs from the anterior superior iliac spine of the ilium to the pubic tubercle of the pubic bone. It is formed by the external abdominal oblique aponeurosis and is continuous with the fascia lata of the thigh.
It is also referred to as Poupart's ligament, because Poupart gave it its relevance to hernial repair (he called it "le suspenseur de l'abdomen", the suspender of the abdomen). It is less frequently termed the Fallopian ligament.
The ligament serves to contain soft tissues as they course anteriorly from the trunk to the lower extremity. This structure demarcates the superior border of the femoral triangle. So there you go. A layman's explanation would be very much appreciated . . . I think. GET WELL SOON CLARKEY. IT MUST BE ONE HELL OF A CONVERSATION STARTER WITH ANY ONE ANYWHERE WHO ENQUIRES INTO CLARKEY'S WELLBEING.

For a basic explanation, the ligament between the hip and abdomen.

For a basic explanation, the ligament between the hip and abdomen. Or to be even more specific, yet still in layman's terms, if you put your hands on your hips, the bony ridge you feel at the front, where your fingers are, is the ASIS (anterior superior iliac spine). The pubic tubercle is in the... er, lower, central pelvic region (you can feel that too if you press a little bit). In a nutshell, it's the ligament between those 2 points. Now all of you get your hands out of your pants.

Pete's asked me for a suggestion of a meeting place. I don't know canberra but Rodent has suggested old canberra inn at Lyneham. apparently it's about a $10 cab from the ground. We'll probably be there from around midday I guess.

MEDIA RELEASE JULY 27, 2007
Popovic could make Sydney FC debut in Canberra
Former Qantas Socceroos defender Tony Popovic could make his Sydney FC debut against Central Coast Mariners at Canberra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The unavailability of half-a-dozen players for the 2007 Pre-Season Cup Group B game means that Sydney FC coach Branko Culina could give debuts to Popovic and former Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Michael Enfield.
