Porter is a fine player but looks lost when we play him out of position (in the backs). Trouble for Porter is there are too many excellent players in front of him that unless we get injuries we will never see how good he is.

Boogaard, what have we been missing the last two years! Definitely Olyroo material.
Lawrie said on the radio this morning that the boys are headed up to Newcastle to celebrate his 21st in fancy dress. Enjoy!

Hmm might be a bit ambitous but what about in the future the socceroos could have a back 3 all mariners or ex-mariners players Boogard-Beauchamp-Wliko and possibly heffo because of our lack of left-sided defenders when chippers leaves.

I don't think thats overly ambitious at all Foreignmariner..... sounds like a very possible future back line to me.

i reckon the following 11 current or former mariners have the potential to make major showings for the socceroos in the future: -Beauchamp, obviously there already -Vukovic, just outside the fringe, will be on the fringe until schwarzer retires, but in my opinion is heir apparent to schwarzer -Redmayne, good from what ive heard, will be an understudy to danny and may have to fight with tando and bouzanis etc -Porter, representative within his own age group centre mid competitive spot -Wilkinson, will have to fight with lots of others ie beauchamp, milligan and kisnorbo -Heffernan, chipperfield retiring in the near future clears up a spot for him but may have to fight with carney -Boogaard, we will see if he has what it takes this season same as wilko -McAndrew, good from what ive heard, centre mid is a competitive spot though -Jedinak, good player with loads of potential but will have to fight with culina and grella in the near future -Bozanic, played only a few games for us in preseason 2006 and managed to bypass the a-league stage of development for a major premier league side, this shows insane levels of skill that should be worthy of future socceroos performances -Holland, again only played a handful of games in preseason 2006 but does have what it takes to be a future socceroo

i agree but i did include him and bozanic on my list because they are former mariners, albeit only briefly, but they do have a chance of socceroo selection

Jedinak is the man. When the 'A-League Socceroos' sides start reappearing with upcoming games, he will find his 'in'.
Same with Wilko.

Is it not possible for boogs to just do some sprint training with heff and clarkey? Surely anyone can learn how to run fast, its just a matter of conditioning... Imagine boogs with the speed of brown!

Do you know what would be funny? Injury relapse. Early retirement.

Do you know what would be funny? Injury relapse. Early retirement. I don't actually see the funny side of that.

Do you know what would be funny? Injury relapse. Early retirement. Jaza, why would you say that? The lad's had a horror couple of years and his career was threatened. He has fought tooth and nail to get fit, get game time with CC Lightning during the HAL off season and to keep contracted with the Mariners, and now he's showing the promise that many thought he had two years ago. ...just because he cleared a ball off the line....sour grapes mate.

BAM When that comes from Ursus, you know its some deep and meaningful stuff. And Jazza, thats one f***ed up thing to say man. Boogs is no Muscat champ, he is a decent hard working player. Way out of line.

I would love to see a once a year, end of year, A-league all stars Vs Socceroos, with a-league socceroos playing with the All-stars.
But then it would probably end up being sydney or melbourne heavy. But I can dream...

But I can dream... they will never do it i think everyone learnt the lesson from the Australia A debacle in cricket - everyone supported the "B" team and it diminished the brand and loyalty towards the the main national team from a marketing point of view it is a disasterous concept as it instills negativity towards your core product i would rather see an all star national league team playing all star teams from other countries such as japan, china, korea or the usa
