Iv just found this, which makes it very hard to fire up, but hopefully the boys can win without him...
Injury rules out Wilkinson - The World Game
Central Coast will be without influential skipper Alex Wilkinson for the first time in their three-year history when they host A-League newcomers Wellington Phoenix on Friday night.
The 23-year-old central defender is facing an extended stint on the sidelines after tearing a knee medial ligament in last Friday's 1-0 win over Sydney FC.
The Mariners have, however, been buoyed by left-back Dean Heffernan's selection in coach Graham Arnold's 21-man Socceroos squad for the September 11 friendly against a formidable Argentine squad at the MCG.
Heffernan was a hero for the Mariners in 2005/06, scoring eight goals in their charge to the inaugural A-League Grand Final, before moving to the Bundesliga with FC Nurnberg.
But the 27-year-old had a hapless time in Germany, struggling with injury and form and failing to start a game.
Heffernan said part of the reason for his return to the Central Coast was to get in the eye of Arnold, but admitted he was shocked the national team call-up happened so quickly.
"To be honest I was a little bit surprised this morning when I was told, but at the same time I'm on top of the world," Heffernan said.
"In a way it has happened quickly but it's an honour, it's something I've always wanted, so it's awesome."
"Playing for the Socceroos was one of the main reasons for coming to the Mariners, because you have to be playing regular first-team games to have a chance of selection."
Heffernan said his call-up, combined with the Mariners' gritty opening round win over Sydney, had the side high on confidence going into Friday night's game at Central Coast Stadium.
But the Phoenix are also flying high on the back of their shock come-from-behind 2-2 draw with defending champions Melbourne last Sunday.
"Against Melbourne, Wellington never gave up," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said.
"They were down 2-0 and not in the game and then the last 10 minutes they were fantastic."
"At the finish up they were unlucky not to win the game, they hit the post and (Shane) Smeltz missed a good header."
"Its going to be a hard game, physically they really work hard and I'm sure they'll be up for the game. They'll be full of confidence after that comeback."
Wilkinson's absence opens the door for retired Socceroos defender Tony Vidmar, who missed selection for last Friday's triumph at the Sydney Football Stadium.

It's a brilliant day here on the Coast ATM. Also, Vidmar will line up in the centre of defence and will captain the team.

Grantley Bernard Good start vital for Phoenix
Wellington Phoenix head into their first away A-League match tonight, against the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford, knowing a repeat of the sluggish start and hesitant defence against Melbourne Victory last weekend cannot be repeated.
Wellington were caught napping in the opening 30 minutes of their A-League debut at Westpac Stadium, something coach Ricki Herbert knows would not go unpunished against a polished Mariners outfit.
"We've worked hard on that. Again it's relationships and making the right decisions," he said. "We probably weren't as composed on the ball as we should have been, but that's one thing we've worked hard on this week."
Getting a foothold in the match early will be crucial. The Mariners, grand finalists in the first A-League, have one of the hottest strike partnerships in the league in former Sydney marksman Sasho Petrovski and Nik Mrdja, and traditionally play well from in front.
"We've probably been a second- half team in the pre-season so hopefully we can hold them off in the first half and don't give away anything silly, and I think we'll be all right," said Phoenix left back Tony Lochhead, who thought the team had applied itself well in training after last weekend's thrilling 2-2 debut draw.
"We've had to put it into perspective. It was just one game," he said.
"It's just a matter of maintaining what we did in the last 20 minutes for the entire 90, particularly making sure we start better. We were a little bit lucky early.
"There were a few shaky periods there that maybe if they were further into the season we would have been punished, so we need to sort that out. We're still a new side but hopefully over the next few games we'll get more solid."
Right back Steven Old (flu) will miss tonight's match, with Steven O'Dor slotting into the squad. It is expected Herbert will otherwise keep with the same starting XI as in the Victory match, meaning Felipe will again come off the bench.
The Mariners, the only team to win in round one, have been installed as hot favourites, with a near- capacity crowd expected at Bluetongue Stadium. Big things are expected of them this season, with coach Lawrie McKinna having put together a top-four squad on paper.
However, skipper Alex Wilkinson will miss tonight's match through injury, opening the door for Socceroos legend Tony Vidmar and Andrew Clark to lead from the back. Aside from Wilkinson's absence, the home side is at full strength.
"We beat them here in the Pre- Season Cup 2-0, but that form goes out the window now," McKinna said.
THE LINEUPS
Central Coast Mariners: Matthew Trott, Matt Simon, Bradley Porter, Andre Gumprecht, John Hutchinson, Dean Heffernan, Nik Mrdja, Tom Pondeljak, Damien Brown, Greg Owens, Tony Vidmar, Andrew Clark, Nigel Boogaard, Matthew Osman, Adam Kwasnik, Danny Vukovic, Sasho Petrovski, Mile Jedinak (three to be omitted).
Wellington Phoenix: Glen Moss, Jeremy Christie, Tony Lochhead, Cleberson, Karl Dodd, Ross Aloisi (captain), Vaughan Coveny, Shane Smeltz, Michael Ferrante, Daniel, Richard Johnson, Steven O'Dor, George, Felipe, Royce Brownlie, Jacob Spoonley (one to be omitted). TAB odds: Mariners $1.65, Phoenix $5.25, draw $3.30 TV: Sky Sport 3, 10pm tonight.

Is clarkey coming in for boogs? Will Boogs and Viddie be too slow for a centre pairing?
Dont think capacity crowd is likely?
