Bear, Just consider yourself lucky that Spirit relocated to the further Northern Districts of Sydney and you got Lawrie and myself. If that had not happened you probably would be in the Squadron. Do not just deal with it, UNDERSTAND and AGREE. Don't you live in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney now? Ursus, Iv disliked Newcastle and its bogans since WELL before the a-league, it would be a cold day in hell before you would have seen me there supporting them. And ok, with some peoples reasons for changing teams, I can understand, but that is not to say I agree. As you know, I was also a North Sydney Bears fan, I didnt jump ship to the nearest team when they folded, as I was a very passionate supporter of them, even though I was only young. Should the Mariners fold, I would not jump ship to another a-league team, I was born 300metres from Bluetongue, and its my team. There is no other. And if I have another person ask me "because you like on the North Shore now, are you going to support Sydney?" im going to flip. I see changing teams, when your old team is still around, as a bigger dog shot than a punch in the head from behind, and thats my opinion. When the North Sydney Bears were shafted I left league for good and joined the "Sheilas, Wogs and Pooftas". I had followed the Bears since I could walk and was the third generation of my family to follow them. When the NSL collapsed I saw my team change name and location. That is all. Spirit were looking to relocate to the Coast well before the NSL collapse. I am still following "My Team".

Its much simpler. Born is Sydney, support Sydney. Born in Gosford, support Central Coast. I simply CAN NOT understand people not supporting where they are from. I realize that many of my friends from the marinators are not originally from the coast, but still support the coast. Whilst I may not understand or agree with their reasons for supporting the team, I deal with it. And also according to bear i shouldn't even be supporting the a-league because i'm from a place thats to poor to host an A-League club But i find it takes you a while to find out the club you attach yourself. for example in the first 6 years of my life i went for 5 different AFL teams and then eventually stuck to Hawthorn. I always supported Man Utd for my whole life up untill bout 2001 when Bolton got promoted and i liked there determination and Jay-jay okocha so i started supporting them but after only a year or two i found it wasnt the club for me and gladfully went back to my 100% support of the red devils. some may see that as traitory but it can be just one of those "phases" you have in life and then realise later it was silly.

I would never consider not supporting Newcastle Jets.
I hate the newcastle knights, i was born and mainly raised in Wollongong.
Mine was simply based on the fact i loved playing and watching football and my first live game was a Newcastle (breakers) game, so i followed Newcastle football ever since.

I was born in Canada, but have lived around Hornsby my whole life. However, I hate the "vibe" of Sydney (town) and won't cross the Bridge unless I absolutely have to, so there is no way in the world I was going to support their team.
Some years ago the majority of my mates all bought houses around the CC (mainly Kariong) and as a result I've spent more and more time up here and when the A League started up, it was natural that we'd go down to Grahame Park and watch the local team.
My compass has four points on it, but they all point North.

Interesting debate. Under Bearinators theory I should be a Jets fan, being from Tamworth, Newcastle is the closest city, and is where most people from my home town go to for university. However I couldn't go for them because Newcastle is...well..it's nNewqcastle. A dirty dingy run down city that is fast becoming a ghost town in the CBD...almost more boarded up businesses than open ones.
Serious, an old mate from home...has lived here for a few years and is a rabid fanatical Marinator (IMO). When I first started coming to HAL matches it was Season 2, I'd drive down on the weekend after work, watch the match and drive home, a 700km round trip. Now i live down here, it's a short walk down to Bluetongue. Occasionally I'd crash at Serious' place overnight.
As for Turnbull and the display of him and his mates cutting their scarves the other week. That means nothing. If they were "real" fans they'd have been over in Bay 16 already where the rest of us should have been by the time that rubbish was going on.
And besides, they'll go where they think they'll get the best return on their money.

I understand that position, and think it is true in some cases. For example, if you were born in the "blue" side of Manchster, and your folks, your grandparents your uncles had all supported Man City for a hundred years. Understand, that is tradiiton. But come on, the comp is 2 years old, all NEW clubs, NO tradition whatsoever. Therefore, it takes a couple of years to find out what the club stands for etc. What the Marienrs stands for is a whole lot more toward my way of thinking ,than what Hakoah stands for. Hence the change. That's all. People that CHANGE team however, I have very little time for. YOU STICK WITH YOUR TEAM, THROUGH HARD TIMES AND BAD. Born in Sydney, but the devil will be ice skating through hell before I support Budget FC. Originally half heartedly support Parramatta Melita, with the odd trip to Melita Stadium. Then a break for a couple of years before the dream of a team representing Northern Sydney in the NSL, and free of all this ethnic bullshit that hung over Marconi,Sydney Olympic,Sydney Utd. Followed Northern Spirit FC through the highs and lows, and was gutted when they were forced to fold, this was brightend with the news of tehm looking at re-launching in Gosford and so the very first seeds of Central Coast Mariners FC were planted. And as they say the rest is history.

Obviously Bearinator did not support a football team in the old NSL and has only started to support a team since the Mariners came to the Central Coast.
