The Central Coast Mariners head into Saturday's top-of-the-table Hyundai A-League clash against Adelaide on Saturday short on numbers again but coach Lawrie McKinna is confident that all bases are covered. "We only have 16 players available for selection this week but we have options in each position where we have lost players," McKinna said. "We're starting to get players back while other clubs are now getting hit by injuries. In a couple of weeks we will be almost back to full strength so we're looking good for the back half of the season." Wing back Dean Heffernan and centre half Mile Jedinak both return from one-week suspensions to take their place in the starting side. Heffernan's return to the defensive line is timely with young defender Nigel Boogaard sidelined with a calf injury. Boogaard participated in a three-day Olyroos training camp in Sydney this week but rather than train with the rest of the squad spent the time having treatment on his injury. Heffernan returns to left back allowing Tony Vidmar to switch back to central defence to partner captain Alex Wilkinson who survived a full game against Melbourne after returning from nine weeks on the sideline last week. McKinna said he has no hesitation in starting Jedinak back in the centre of the park. "We missed his defence and his height last week," McKinna said. Jedinak will partner John Hutchinson in central midfield but McKinna's biggest selection dilemma is who will take the place of suspended striker and leading goal scorer Sasho Petrovski. McKinna said he will either promote young striker Matt Simon from the bench to play up front with World Cup goal scorer John Aloisi or move midfielder Adam Kwasnik into the striker's role. "Big Matty did well coming off the bench running 70 metres to make the cross which produced our first goal," McKinna said. "Kwas will also do the job for us but he's still getting back to full fitness." McKinna was also considering a start for Andre Gumprecht this week but ruled that out when the midfielder strained his hamstring at training on Tuesday. Following the match against Adelaide at Gosford on Saturday the Mariners travel to Perth. For that game they will be without Olyroos representatives Boogaard and goalkeeper Danny Vukovic but should have both Damien Brown and Paul O'Grady back from injury. A return for luckless striker Nik Mrdja this season has been ruled out and he will undergo a knee operation. McKinna is hopeful of signing an injury replacement for Mrdja and has been bombared by agents putting forward State League players. "We're in no hurry but will start to have a look at some of these boys over the next couple of weeks," McKinna said. So gumps is out, and mrdja . But its good to see theres alot of players wanting to come and play for the mariners. Its going to be a good game. I really wanna see Matty start i thought in the short time he was on he was awesome, inspirational.

I think his best avenue is an impact player.Hes still very raw in terms of A League and has that unknown value to opposition defences, which is a good thing to have. I love the way he comes on and just runs at 'em,doesnt care who you are or where you've played treats them all the same and backs himself.

Spoke to the Mother in law - she's good friends with Browny's mum Well, sometimes that's the type of sacrifice you have to make when you're that keen for a bit of inside info

You know, I really don't feel good at all about this match. I can definitely see Adelaide getting the 3 points...........via forfeit. I can definitely foresee our team completely missing Saturday night and just rocking up at 5pm on Sunday out of habit

But yes - its a sacrifice I am willing to make... ;D

Looks like it's gonna be a wet track I've got an OK feeling about this one. Maybe 2-1 with us scoring first this time and JA to open his account. Crowd down with the rain. Hopefully other results will go our way and who knows? - Sunday night with us having a 6-point jump on the pack. Given 3 out of the last 4 goals being sweet first-touches outside the box, hoping the boys might be keener to pull the trigger (and have been working on this) not just the deep wing crosses into traffic in the 6-yard box.

This game is a classic six pointer.
Win this one and we have gone a long, long way to a top two finish and dare I say it, to finishing in top spot.
The biggest and most important game of our season so far without a doubt.

Im confident of a win tomorrow, but I cant see us being top come season end. Just a bad feeling. And I can see them f***ing with the ACL qualifying system to, so we dont get in if we win anything this year. They cant have a shity little team like the mariners in the ACL now can they.

I for one will be soooooo Pissed orf if they do that (and we know there is a good chance). Means we need the Grand final win and the Table toper!!! I can see us being top of the table at the end, The final is another thing! Agree about the classic 6 point game though, a win here will be another huge boost..

4-2 to the Mariners, none of this hitting the woodwork crap, this time they will go in and JA will score two.

Loving the fired up confident talk in this thread boys! The Mariners as a team and club need a bit more arrogance. We haven't gone out and played well for 90 minutes yet this season...we need to be able to go out and say 'We are better than you and we are gonna prove it all night long'. Yeah, we need to be focussed, wary, prepared, but all those things are a given under Lawrie. What we need is to get past 'We can win the league' and start saying 'We are going to win the f***ing league and shit on you all in the process!' One of these games we're going to put 90 together and I don't care if it's against Adelaide, Newcastle or Perth, no team can get near us on the rare occasion we do that. We need a touch of arrogance, without the complacency, to expect to go out and do that week after week. Too easy
