Good game yesterday against Broadmeadow. Porter was the standout in midfield, with Boogs solid at the back. Matty Simon came on and showed his impressive ability to pressurize an entire half of the field...defenders and goalkeepers have to be so quick on the ball when he is lurking. Word is that another more senior Mariners player with turn out for Lightning in search of fitness and form...it's going to be a fun season on the R-D stand! Not keen on cold Saturday night's at Pluim but may get to some away games. BTW Broadmeadow Magic are the NNSW's top League (NBN) champions, so good hit-out. Is it likely that James Holland will play? The senior player needing game time? ..... Nik? Awesome, Clarky? He's an old hand. Stringers? Gumps, Viddy and Tommy need game time, but I think they may not be risked.

Don't think the U20's played...if they did it as before i got there! I actually did recognise a few players from broadmeadow but I don't know who they were sorry.

20's drew 2-all, lightning had plenty of opportunities, Broadmeadow ran out of puff in the second half, good hitout against older opposition.

I know Jason McMinnimee scored the first goal off a penalty. It would have been a goal for Neill Woodcock if he didn't get taken down from behind... it was basically a one-on-one.
Can't remember who got the second. I think it might have been a player I didn't know.
Tiger, your report is forgetting Lobby who came on 2nd half in left back... another clear stand out. I don't think Porter stood out until later in the 2nd half when he started pushing up and started applying pressure and winning balls in their third.
20's had plenty of chances... a few sitters were missed. Andrew 'too easy' Myles also missed a penalty.

their first grade keeper is Scotty, former Coast U16 keeper from a year or two back, trains with Darkie....saved a penalty he had just conceded by bringing down an attacker.

Azzuri have a few ex national league players in their squad Josh Maguire who played for NZ last year and a few others, theyve also signed Jacob Rex the young keeper who lives on the coast so they are a decent side

Porter Boogs and Symons played. The defence looked very ordinary to say the least.

Mitch Johnson played NSL youth. 5 of the starting 11 played FYL with my son & are 19 yrs, with 2 other starters at 20 yrs. They are a very good young team, however, Lightning played with little intensity till 20 mins from time & the defence was poor. (other than Boogaard who did best & was busy in the middle) Though it's the only trial I've seen them play so far, they look like they still need to lift quite a bit which I'm sure they will. U/20's were out played by a very good young reserve squad. The 18's looked sharp, played the ball around the park very well & controlled the game against a strong u19's team.

Didn't see the game but was told by someone in the team that the goals were scored by matty simon, set up by neill woodcock on both occasions and that Lightning had plenty of chances but didn't put it away, and Azzurri had 5 breakaways and scored 5 goals.

Central Coast Express Advocate Friday February 23, 2007
AMBITIOUS LIGHTNING COACH SAYS HE'S NOT CHASING RAINBOWS:
New Coach John McLafferty wants Central Coast Lightning back in the Premier League within two seasons.
McLafferty believes the goal is "very achievable" after agreeing to take over for a second stint as coach of a Central Coast side two months ago.
A premiership winner with Wyoming in the coast's Premier League One competition, McLafferty's teams kick starts its campaign with a tough away match in the Winter Super League against Bonnyrigg next week.
With the support of the Central Coast Mariners, McLafferty believes it is time for the Lightning to deliver, on and off the field.
"In previous years there's been a lot of drama off the field and the performances on the field have suffered ," McLafferty.
"I think the region needs and deserves a team in the Premier League and that's the long-term goal. I only got approached to do the job just before Christmas but things are progressing very well from a football point of view.
"Off the field everything is starting to fall into place too."
McLafferty said a key to Lightning's sauces will be the relationship with the Mariners. So far the A-League club has committed several players to bolster McLafferty's Super League campaign.
Nigel Boogard, Brad Porter, Matt Simon and goalkeeper Matthew Trott will be Lightning regulars. Other players from the Mariners could follow.
They will join several players from the district competition including Marcus Steele, Brad Lewis, Neil Woodcock and Peter Preston. Xavier Forsberg is also a confirmed starter. The Lightning have their final trial against Stanmore at Pluim Park, Lisarow, from 6pm on Sunday (25th).
