Who ever is charge of setting out the pitch can be held responsible for a poor showing due to the corner flags being moved in at least 4 meter's. What a joke. The game could not be played with any width at all. It was a under 10 pitch. Maybe that had something to do with a packed midfield, do you think?

The side lines have been well in, but I thought this would be just for the trials. Obviously the reason is to try and avoid the tracks worn by the assistant referees. Surely this could be avoided by moving the side lines a metre at a time on a fortnightly basis.

Agreed, the pitch seemed really narrow on the side away from the Margin stand. Also, who was responsible for marking the lines? they couldnt be seen.
Still worth going, good BBQ sarnies, better than no live football and it is interesting to watch the Mariners boys going round.
Whoever was wearing 18 for the other side is damn good player too - anyone know who he is?

the lines might have been moved in as a result of a request from the lightning coach?
lee sterrey at the breakers used to get the lines moved in and out according to the opposition he was playing
when he played very skilfull sides (olympic, marconi) there was no width whatsoever and he turned the game into a kick-fest

Andrew Myles played quite well too. Were you watching the same game as me? ? Myles had a shocker. Was lazy and was terrible. The field is narrow now so any width was crucial yet he kept dropping infield and taking Neil Woodcocks space. He was leaving paul(lightning RB) with no options. He didnt defend either, leaving a massive hole on the right side.

I agree with you keensy. IMO too many players were wanting to look good instead of doing their job.

In the 1st half, most of the Lightnings problems were caused by the RB pushing up too high. He was vulnerable to long balls in behind him (the goal) and Boogs had to come across a number of times to cover.
He stayed back from then on and isolated Myles.
10 people watch a game and 10 different opinions, thats what makes it so great.

Im with Keensy. However, Myles was thrown in to the deep end. He is a centre-mid and that was pretty evident when he kept drifting inwards. The team as a whole played pretty poorly compared to the previous games I have seen. I don't think it was about trying to look good... there was no one there to impress.
The grounds person told my mate that it was to avoid the track marks from the linesmen and would be moved back out once the local comp starts. Rookie call from the authorities here. They seem to get one idea and just go with it. By moving it in, aren't they going to be getting track marks inside the field when it gets moved out? If they just kept the lines where they were, what difference would the track marks make if they aren't in the field. They seem to care about the grass more than the game itself. On top of this... what makes under18s sockah so much more important than the development of our local representative side?
Another thing; they are in $500 000 debt or whatever, yet they thought it was necessary to have every team decked out in some hideous new uniform.

U20's are great to watch going forward, they have great pace and move the ball really well.
Strange game in Seniors though.
Low crowd due to the terrible weather and the Socceroos game I expect. Boogs scored a n early goal and the central spine of Simon,Porter,Boogs and Trott meant that they were in command. But at 1-1 and down to 9 players, they were caught out a few times but were still getting forward as best they could and a point was a good result under the circs IMHO.
Just before HT, attack is cleared and behind play, a Stanmore player goes down. Ref doesnt see it or stop play until the ball goes out and the lino doesnt flag. Eventually ref is oursuaded to go over to the linesman and then gives Woody a straight red. A point that Trotty seemed to make quite forcefully as they walked off at HT.
Early in the second half, Boogs gets a yellow for dissent and then obviously went on with it and got a 2nd yellow.
Anyhoo............
Trott - Good solid performance. No chance with a well struck penalty.
Boogs - Until the send off, by far the outstanding player on the pitch. Reads the game so well and just appears in the right place at the right time. Hallmark of a class defender. Will be interesting to see how he performs against better players.
Porter - Worked hard and + put in a solid shift
Simon - Seemed most effective using his pace and good close control in breakaways, played up front on his own after Woody's send off and ran himself into the ground. Substituted with about 10 to go as he tired.
Lawrie and Gumps were there too.
I know that there were a lot of pretty good reasons to stay in tonight, but I would encourage anyone to get along to Lightning games if they can. A wonderful lack of "match day experience" just good honest grassroots football.
